transferring and joining a sorority
by: Transfer18I received a guaranteed transfer last year, and just enrolled. I will be coming in as a transfer next fall and was wondering how hard it is to join a sorority as a sophomore transfer. Will top tier sororities reject me? Will recommendations and a high GPA help? Should I do fall rush or wait for formal recruitment?

A lot of transfer students rush the year they get here. While some houses discriminate against these girls, most sororities are very open to the idea of bidding older girls.
I wouldn't recommend rushing in the fall since almost no house does fall rush. Plus, even if there were a few houses that were doing fall rush you would be doing yourself a disservice by not allowing yourself to consider other houses. I would use the fall as an opportunity to meet as many girls in houses as you can to get a feel for what they are each like. Then, if you think that going Greek is still the right option for you, you should sign up for formal recruitment in the spring.

did you rush at your other school? if you have, unfortunately all top/middle tier houses will automatically reject you regardless if you got initiated or even took a bid from a different sorority. if not, i would definitely rush in the spring after you get to know some girls and get a feel for what sorority you are in! good luck!

definitely rush, you will get a bid somewhere you like if you are sweet, genuine, can hold a conversation, pretty, funny... recs don't matter though... money might help but as long as you know how to dress yourself it doesn't matter how expensive your clothes are

a number of houses that have already been established are doing fall recruitment (thats what ive heard at least). you should look at the websites for houses you are interested in joining and then reach out to their recruitment/membership chair. i rushed as a transfer and i made it into a wonderful sorority filled with some of the most amazing and genuine girls. i would definitely recommend rushing in the fall.

It is definitely possible to get a bid from any house if you're a transfer if you're pretty, can hold an interesting convo, and honestly, have money.
