recommendations/letters of support

by:

Alright, I'm from the south and all of my friends are going through massive amounts of preparation for recruitment in states like Arkansas, Texas, Alabama, etc. I know they have to get a few alumnae recs per chapter before recruitment, or will be cut from essentially every house after day one. I've heard that these aren't required as often up north - so, do I need them at Cornell?

As someone on the other end, I can tell you at some places it might give you a slight boost, but generally recommendations are completely unnessesary at cornell.

Just show off that you're rich in your conversations somehow and you'll be good

some people say that getting rec letters helps you stand out, and some houses are required to invite you back to a second round if you have a letter of rec/are a legacy, but it is absolutely not required and will most likely not give you an edge. If the sisters like you, you will be invited back regardless of whether or not you have a rec.
