a letter to freshman

by:

Dear potential new members.

It’s mid-November and you can officially talk to Sororities. So as you begin to think about whether or not you want to go through recruitment (we apparently can’t call it rush FYI) I would like to say a few things.

First off, houses are full of girls who never thought they would join a sorority, so be open minded to the Greek system.
Going off the open-mindedness, seriously please try to leave all the preconceived notions aside. Joining a sorority is not about whom you mix with (that doesn’t even really matter after sophomore year anyway), it is truly about having a community within Cornell. Cornell becomes so much smaller as Greek life exposes you to people you most likely never would have met otherwise. Joining a sorority gives you about 200 girls who have your back through it all, and provides an opportunity to make some amazing friends. It allows you to try new things and gives you opportunities to grow in various leadership roles. People will always mention connections, this is true too; connections not only within Cornell, but in the real world.

Sorry, that wasn’t supposed to sound like an advertisement. Anyways, here is how the whole process goes

The first two days you will go to 6 houses each day. Be prepared. There will be loud pounding and screaming (why did no one warn me?). You will be in groups with your rho gamma (they lead you around) and will line up in alphabetical order in front of each house(cont. next post
