saying a sorority isn’t diverse isn’t helpful

I see a lot of people complain that certain sororitys aren’t diverse, and they often aren’t. Clearly racism can be a factor at play.
But if you’re constantly telling minority girls how not diverse a sorority is and how “left out” they’ll feel if they join, how exactly do you expect that to change? The reasonable thing to expect is those girls will think “oh. That is not the house for me” and continue to join more diverse houses while the other houses don’t change.
I could be wrong

from a girl in a not very diverse house (even though none of them really are), BUMP. we want to diversify. we want to bring as many different experiences, perspectives and kind hearts into the house as possible. PLEASE know that. I know it’s easy to feel uncomfortable during rush based off of the girls you see around you, but know that we are looking for HEARTS to bring into the house. not bodies. we all want our PCs to be reflective of Cornell & the world around us. and any house that doesn’t feel this way is not worth your time anyway (: 🦋

As someone who went through rush as a POC, while I get it might seem counterintuitive to call out houses for not being diverse, it makes sense girls are doing that. I remember being super uncomfortable or feeling like I stuck out in certain houses and other POC friends did too. A lot even dropped cause of the bias and stuff they felt during rush and while I get houses would like to be more diverse, a lot of POC rushing don’t want to be tokenized or just feel weird not seeing anyone that looks like them while rushing. I’d explain more but that would take more than a paragraph.
