rush encouragement (sorority)
by: Rush
Hi guys!
I just wanted to let you know that how you do in rush does NOT define you. I know so many pretty, fun, sweet girls that were absolutely destroyed during rush and a lot of weird girls make it pretty far or into “top” houses. There really isn’t much of a pattern and it often doesn’t make sense.
Additionally, how many houses you get isn’t “representative” of how your experience will be. I have friends that again got demolished and ended up in a solid house that they love. I have friends that never got cut, by any house, and absolutely hate it.
Really, just be yourself, and look presentable. That’s all you should and need to do

This is pretty true! I think we should spread positivity before rush not negativity. If greek life appears toxic to PNMs then it’ll just scare them away from ALL houses. The truth is that rush is generally a method of organizing people into their classes, where a few lucky girls manage to get sorted incorrectly. Lower income girls who went to no-name high schools Sometimes end up in Core four / upper mid if they had a girl in a class or club help them out, or if they made it their whole LIFE first semester to get themselves into a top house. Similarly, rich girls sometimes end up in the bottom half if they made a mistake during rush and seemed awkward / anxious or said the wrong things. Also every house has arbitrary things they look for that you probably don’t know about that they decided is their recruitment strategy that year

I agree with this but also rush can be toxic especially for like POC or like girls’ self esteems in general and this comment makes things seem a little too rosy.
