why does rush not pan out for every girl?
by: SadI know Rho Gammas and PHC say trust the process, but when there are girls who get cut by all houses and do COB and it doesn’t work out, it’s very demoralizing. And before ppl rush to attack me, I know the system can’t be perfect because it’s man-made, but still it seems like there should be less disappointment and heartbreak than there is.

^^ not all houses do it like that but it’s pretty accurate.
If we think you’re going to ABC house- because you look or sound or seem like someone already in ABC house, we are cutting you.
Which is sad because that means the very stereotypes we try to avoid are something we stick to when choosing who WE think will choose us.
It’s a mind game.
There needs to be a better system- absolutely. Hopefully the new people will come in and make changes in panhel.
Hopefully people will stop reading rankings and be conned into thinking there’s only certain houses for them.
My roommate freshman year was a gorgeous girl who didn’t get a bid and a week later they were all trying to get her. Why? Because each top house assumed she was going to someone else. And the middle ones thought she was above them. (She ended up in the middle house she wanted all along).
When it’s all based on what we think you might be thinking— it’s never going to work.
It’s like a sociology experiment.
My opinion is that you look at the houses who need members- get in there and start gaining people like yourself and then turn things around.

So how many girls are still trying to find a house? Arent’t they told that girls still in at the end will get a house - but that doesn’t seem to really be the case? What gives? Feel really bad for girls who came back early and went through all this giving tons of their time and much effort to ultimately get rejected. Does anyone look out for or follow up with these girls?

To the OP - this sucks. I’m sorry for you.
I went through rush twice. Neither time getting a house.
The second time I went through COB all way through to the end and got cut. So at least you found out now before you went through all of that.
There is life after rush. I promise.
The service frats are awesome- and I’ve found my place in one. E have bigs and littles, jut like Greeks. Outings and parties, etc.
There’s clubs to join and people everywhere looking for other people. Keep going, don’t give up

But there are many girls who came back a week early, invested much time/effort/money and stayed through until the end but didn’t get anything - contrary to what they were told. I’m not talking about those who dropped out early. ‘Just trying to understand the actual process.
Also, which 2 houses are you referring to that need members so badly???

Also, there were huge numbers of girls dropping out and then coming back in to open bid which makes this year different from other years. The list of houses open bidding is way more extensive than usual. So- if you were dropped (which sucks) just know you’re mixing in with others who dropped out and are now getting a second chance but might be rated higher than you even though you stayed longer (if that makes any sense) .. and I mean rated higher by the person who had to literally rate you the day you left the house. Those ratings are ONE persons opinion and not the whole house. I’m in a top middle house and I’ve never rated anyone, I can’t take that pressure.
Have you reached out to Phi Mu or Phi Sig? Or only the one house you wanted to open bid?

Let me say this. I am in an mid upper house and I know girls in both houses. Please check out these two groups! They love each other and have a wonderful sisterhood, a full schedule of events and great houses to hang in.
You will not regret being a part of either one of these organizations. They are a class acts all the way with caring, smart women. Seriously!

Not to my knowledge.
The open bidding process is still going on- but this year houses heard back from record numbers. A house which has heard back from 80 girls but can only take 7 is going to be doing their best right now to interview all the girls and try to set them up with sisters to meet.
This is the unfortunate casualty of wanting to be in certain houses while discounting others- there are houses right now that need members. But because girls are being short sighted and believing that they can’t go “down the ladder” to another house, they’d rather get nothing than a group of girls in a house that truly needs members and is trying to make a difference by offering placement and work their way up the system.
It goes both ways.
A ton of girls dropped right after they got cut by the highest houses- which is a terrible message to houses which are (for now) less popular and have lower enrollment. Now these girls want to come back and COB because they realized the mistake they made and it’s flooding the system.
To the girls who cane early and gave your best shot- we are truly sorry if you slipped through the system but please consider that there’s two houses who need members and actually have pretty cool girls in them.
It is a difficult process and it’s not Pergevt but it’s also made harder by PMNs who want to believe they should be in a top house and won’t consider anything else even if it would really be a wonderful experience
