open bidding tips

by: Go for it

By now you should be seeing houses talking about open bidding either online (their own pages) or through angel emails!

Some advice-
Email the houses and give a brief description of yourself and say you’re interested in hearing about their open bid process. You do not need to give a lengthy excuse for why you are doing this. Just say you’re interested.
If you get called to meet with girls- see this as a chance to start over. Do not be nervous, now is the time to be yourself. Ask questions - let them get to know you. Learn as much as you can about their house.
Above all do not key rankings or rumors or anything you’ve read on here affect where you decide to try. Nothing on here represents what is true in the real world.
Many people who open bid fear coming in late but those who have will tell you that a majority of their sisters don’t even realize they did. You blend in so fast it’s not anything to worry about!

Best of luck open bidders!!
❤️

Numbers? How many are estimated to still be looking for a house and how many spots are there?

The amount of members a house takes is going to be different for each house. Some could take as few as two or as many as ten or more , it’s dfeoendent in their numbers from rush

It would be helpful to know rush numbers like how many girls didn’t get a house and are still looking vs how many spots are left.Kind of hard to know what to do or what even makes sense with no clue?

I want to wait until I have permission to list houses- I’m not on panhel but I did see one house post something today- although now I can’t find it. I would assume that you will get an email from from panhel in the next couple days with the full list (perhaps some are still deciding).
Once you see that list- it will be easier for you.
You should be folllwing houses insta pages and check out things they are doing, trying to familiarize yourself with their events and see where you might be excited to be.
This is the longest week ever for girls who want to open bid, it happens every year ... it’s hard to wait!!

I remember last year there was a house that did COB very low-key, is that probably gonna happen again this year as a lot of houses got smaller PCs?

I’m not sure- I would think it’s going to be a mix. Yeah some will do it low key. I do know one house that did reach their quota but is still going to do it. They all have their own reasons for doing so... maybe there’s girls they really wanted who dropped and they are hoping to see them again or who knows why.
Panhel may want them to wait until an official list goes out to keep things on the level

is it possible that there are houses doing it that aren't listed in the email sent by panel?

No - the houses open bidding would be listed in the email. That’s the way it works. If others break that rule I wouldn’t know, but I’ve not heard it.
“Low key” would be the manner in which they open bid. Do they invite girls out to dinner? Conduct interviews? Do they just have a meet and greet and then decide? Some have a system to go through and some do not.

There was a house last that did it that wasn’t on the list that Panhel sent out. They only took like one girl tho. And there are rumors about two houses doing the same thing of keeping their COB under wraps this yr but we shall see.

I’m not aware of any of this-
And that response above is someone using my screen name.
I guess anything is possible.
But you’d have to wonder why anyone would do anything “low key”
They should be proud to take you or not do it at all

Oh the tag was just directed as a response to you. Not actually using ur screen name. That’s why it’s @Go For It. Sorry for the misunderstanding

Ok Gotcha.
Just don’t want to spread false info here and get girls hopes up. We wouldn’t want them avoiding houses that are in the level for those that may or may not be secretly open bidding.
This process has been confusing enough for them. 😉

what does doing open bidding " low key" mean exactly

Approach every single house! It’s that simple. Some houses are going to take extra members and not even put it out there publicly. Friends of sisters will get those spots. Others will do it more officially. Either way, the sororities can take extra members if they want to. Approach them all.

How do you approach every house? Do you email their recruitment chair or something?

That means You should email the whole list that you got from panhel regarding open bidding.
Some houses already have an insta post with the email address to inquire about open bidding, so go look at those :)

It usually takes a few days. Once the girls start emailing houses than they can have a better sense of how they are organizing people

Just hang in there- there’s a bunch of houses and the most important part is that you give one a chance who wants to meet you.
It’s a nerve wracking process. ✊🏻 Hang in.

can u reach out to other houses that u liked even if they’re not listed?

By: Hmm
by: WhyFeb 1, 2019 12:10:53 PM

I’m not sure that’s a good idea.
If they were interested in open bidding they would have added themselves to the list.
You’re much better off attempting to meet the houses that may really want you!

how do the houses usually decide who they call back to meet with?

By: hi
by: DependsFeb 1, 2019 8:20:15 PM

It depends on the house and how many they are taking. If they are only taking a small number- they may only have people that they kept until the last round... if they are taking more they may call back ppl they kept until seconds. Others might go back and review their notes from rush.
It’s different at each place.
