do any of the top sororities take sophomore transf
by: TransferGirllllI'm about to transfer into Cornell's AEM program, and I didn't rush at all last year (my freshman year) because I knew I wouldn't be staying at my school (a large, party-heavy state school, which was fun while it lasted). I want to rush at Cornell, and I don't think any of the sororities I want to join are doing fall recruitment, but I'm still interested in doing formal recruitment. I'm really interested in joining Kappa, Theta or Alpha Phi, but since these are top sororities, would they consider taking a sophomore? Thank you :)

yeah, every single house takes in sophomores. however, i'd just like to remind you that there are 12 sororities here at cornell, each one with its own strength and personalities. as much as the term "top sororities" is thrown around casually, these sororities that you think you might be interested in might turn out to be completely wrong for you. so, keep an open mind and good luck!

A list of houses that don't take any sophomores would be helpful. During recruitment, I don't want to focus on houses that I have no chance with, especially when it comes time to cut sororities from my list. I don't want to eliminate sororities that might consider me over sororities that aren't going to be interested at all.

houses that i know for sure that take sophomores (because i know people who were given bids even as sophomores):
dg (very rare - maybe 1-2 per PC), kappa (rather rare - maybe 2-3), theta (occasionally - at least 3-4 ), tridelt (frequently - at least 4-5), kd (more frequently - at least 6-7)...
i don't really know about the other houses. azd and pss definitely takes in a huge load of sophomores in the past, but i'm not so sure about in the upcoming year, especially since azd did so much better this year than in the previous years, and didn't find it as hard to fill their PC.

Theta took A LOT of sophomores this pc. They were heavily criticized for this move, however, so they might not decide to do that again for awhile. I know you want a top house, but you might want to keep an open mind about the middle tier houses too (SDT/TRIDELT/KD/PI PHI) in case that doesn't work out.

Again, thank you bunches for your unbiased information. It's very helpful. Because I did summer college programs at Cornell and many of my friends went on to attend, I have very good friends in Alpha Phi, KD, Tridelt and Aephi, I have decent acquaintances from my high school in DG. I don't know anyone in Kappa or Theta, at least not right now.

I transferred into Cornell last year and almost all my friends before I rushed were transfers, and many of them rushed. Transfers know each other since almost all of us live on West or in Cascadilla or the Townhouses so I'm guessing this is a pretty accurate reflection (although I can't say I know every single person who rushed). Here is what I know:
Alpha Phi - I know 0 people who got in as transfers
DG - I know of 2
Theta - A LOT
Kappa - I know of 0
SDT - Quite a few
Tridelt - I know of 0
KD - Quite a few
Pi Phi - I know of 0
AEPhi - I know of 1 or 2
PSS - A LOT
AXO - I know of 2 or 3
AZD - I know of 3 or 4
So yeah, Theta, SDT, KD, and PSS definitely took the most transfers. What someone said above about Theta might be true, though, because everyone said that they did very poorly during rush this year, so they might not take as many transfers next year. KD and PSS took lots of transfers but most people believe that their houses improved in ranking this past year, so they might do so again. I have 3 transfer friends who did not get into any sororities at all (they are cool girls, don't get me wrong), so please be advised that there is definitely a bit of a stigma against us transfers. It stinks that options are a bit more limited for us, but I'm glad that I wasn't the only transfer in my pledge class.

You must have no idea what you're talking about. Some houses DO NOT take any sophomores.
