need truly honest feedback

by: NY Dad

Hello:
Just hoping someone can take the time to give me a straight answer to help my son who is interested in rushing. I know all of you love your houses but I am just looking for a short list for him and would like your help. He is good-looking and athletic (know that sounds biased but is true) but is also very shy and quiet. Very chill guy and not the best at socializing but once he know you is funny and smart. He is not looking to party a lot (doesn't drink - that is HIS choice not mine) and definitely would not put up with hazing. Looking more for a house with a good brotherhood where partying is not the main concern. Does not care about social status. Know it won't be "top tier" but hopefully you can give some direction, even if it is not your house and you thing it might be a "lesser" house but better for him. Please provide a short list of possibles. Thanks so much.

I'm in the same boat as him! From what I heard, Delta Chi, Sigma Phi Epsilon and Delta Phi would be the best fits for him.

Sigma Phi Epsilon is about to get kicked off campus and Delta Phi (Llenroc) is already kicked off.

Your son sounds perfect for AD. Btw most frats require your tax return for the past year so we can keep the greek bloodlines pure so make sure he has a copy.

Honestly sir, you've come to the wrong place for advice. Do not use this site for anything more than getting a general view of how frats rank. Your son sounds like a good kid and I think the only way he can find a house that's a good fit for him is to just go through the process of rushing and trust it. This site is filled with trolls and social-climbers. There are many frats for your son to check out, I recommend he simply goes to as many houses as possible and interact with as many brothers as possible. Now, you may be able to get a general understanding of the vibes of each house from this site but don't take anything at face value. Read the other discussions on this site, but obviously be wary. Asking people to list frats will get you a VERY biased response. Best of luck.

Hello sir. I would say probably Pi Kapp and Pike seem like a good fit for him. Sig Pi is also a group of cool guys who are easy to talk to but a little more "fratty". Sammy guys are also super sweet! I am a girl who rushed last year and these frats have some of the most genuine guys I've met. Best of luck to your son!

As a follow up, Pi Kapp is Pi Kappa Alpha from your list above. They are very sweet guys and are fun to be around. Would definitely consider checking them out.

Not sure what frats do not haze.
Any ideas?

Phi tau is the only one that truly does not haze at all. The others all have some degree of it, even if it is very watered down/kind of a joke.

What about the "lower tier"?
Any decent houses among them for someone who does not care about paryting or status?

Phi Tau - has a small house on north campus. Pretty far away from classes on central campus. Has basically no hazing. They party a bit and have “Tau Tuesday” parties every Tuesday. Probably the best fit for your son out of the listed fraternities.

Pi Kapp - pretty nice house on north but a bad location. They do haze a fair bit. Drink somewhat heavily and do a lot of Cocaine. Fun open parties. Really genuine guys for the most part

Alpha Sigma Phi - has a very small house on west on top of a cliff. Minimal hazing. Only had a 3 member spring class last year.

Beta - have a massive house on north campus. Used to be a very wealthy and influential house. Now it is a very studious group. Is a dry frat as well so no alcohol. Lots of guys who play pickup basketball

DTD - good location on west but a very small house. Kinda weird guys. Also, if he isn’t very draggy it’ll be kinda weird being surrounded by very stereotypical “fratty” houses.

Phi Tau is probably the best bet since they don’t have hazing, have the best guys out of the options listed, and have parties (which your son may want to attend in the future)

I’ll be honest, if your son needs his mommy to post, and find a fraternity for him, then he shouldn’t even be joining Greek life. Do you pick out his outfits and make him PB&J too? If your son isn’t outgoing and requires his parent to find a frat for him he shouldn’t be in Greek life, pretty simple.

Admissions dropped the ball I think.

Ignoring all of the trolls on this thread, Beta theta pi honestly sounds like the best fit for your son. Beta does not drink/have any parties in their house, which supposedly is really nice inside, and they're all studious

Just knew there would be decent intelligent people to comment and I am grateful for that. Also knew there would be hateful comments from those without the empathy to understand. Exactly the people my son is looking to avoid. Thanks1
