sorority rush week
by: Freshman galHate this website but didn’t know where else to get accurate answers. I’m a freshman girl who wasn’t planning on rushing but feel like there’s no social life without being in a sorority. Also don’t really have $$$ to pay for all the dues, apparel, etc. Are girls still respected for not being in a sorority? Or are they seen as weird?

^ Agreed. It doesn’t really make a difference other than that you don’t have have a set social schedule, which is actually probably a good thing. As for respect from guys, some of the guys in frats (my frat in particular, but probably in others too) actually prefer girls who aren’t in sororities... probably just because they’re seen more as individualists/unique. Don’t fret it. Either way you’ll have a great time.

Joining a frat is much more important socially than joining a sorority. For example, as a girl you can show up to any party and expect to get in at least 80% of the time simply for being female, whereas a guy without affiliation or invitation stands 0% chance on entry. Guys who don't join frats or some type of organization on campus are often considered geeds and looked down upon by at least a third of campus. So, joining a frat means something, while joining a sorority is not as socially necessary.
