social life outside of greek life

by:

I am an incoming freshman and I'm considering rushing a sorority. However I'm nervous because I don't really have any connections. I was wondering how hard it is to have a good social life at Cornell without joining Greek life. From what I've seen on Instagram/what I've heard is that, only a few girls who aren't in sororities seem to have social lives equivalent to those in the core 4. Is it really that hard to be have a great social life without Greek life?

It's pretty hard to have a "good" social life outside of Greek life. It's definitely not impossible, but let's just say that only a select few girls come to mind when I think of geeds. Unless you're reaaalllyyy confident about being able to get into top frats without Greek life, then rush.

Greek life is great for social aspects, philanthropy and leadership opportunities. It's a big part of life at Cornell. But forget core 4 bs. Rush with an open mind to find a place you'll be happy for 3 1/2 years, not which house can get you into the best parties. In my experience, the top tier frat parties kinda suck, mid tiers are really fun, and bars in CT are fun. Find a group of friends you really connect with and you'll have a great time st Cornell.

You don't need to have any connections to get into a house! You'll see what the rush process is like when you get here. As long as you have an open mind (as in, don't judge houses by their rank or else your social life WILL be impacted in a negative way) you'll end up in a great house for you with a great social life. And if you decide Greek life isn't for you, there are ways to still have a great social life outside of the greek system. But you have to be proactive and join clubs that have really active social scenes, like some dance clubs, a cappella groups, and even tour guides.

I know quite a few girls who are not in sororities who go out even more than girls who are in core 4. It's just what you make of it. It's easy to make friends in "top frats" if that's what you're into, and if not, there are tons of ways to have a great social life. Try to rush and if it's not for you (it's definitely not for everyone) then I'm sure you will still have a good social life if you just try

You'll be fine. If you're a cool person, no one will care if you're in a sorority or not. It honestly does not matter much at all in terms of what parties you go to.. I am in a top frat and we don't care who comes as long as you're cool/ have friends here
