percent of pledge class that are dirty rushed?
by: freshieWhat is the percent of kids in a pledge class that are typically dirty rushed in houses like Sig Chi, Sig Phi, Sig Pi, DU, DX, Phi Psi, and Chi Phi?

you're probably fine for DX, Phi Psi, Sig Pi and Chi Phi. I don't think they really dirty rush. Even for sig chi and sig phi, most of there PC is probably not dirty rushees even though they do dirty rush. A lot of those who dirty rush don't get bids. You have to remember --- this is cornell, not a state school, so it's not as "fratty"

Every single house has rush events and therefore kids who they dirty rush, otherwise why would any house have rush chairs in the fall?
The percentage of yield greatly differs year by year. As someone in one of the aforementioned houses, I can say that there are years where the core of our PC were formed by kids who we had on the radar during fall. While in other years, we met much of our PC through rush week. Regardless, there are always a good amount of kids who join after being dirty rushed. It should be noted that being dirty rushed largely relies on chance - we had to have somehow interacted with you during the fall and thought you were cool to invite you to come around. Moreover, dirty rushing generally just means more "face time" with a potential new member which could work for or against a kid depending on their personality. That being said, we are always open to meeting new cool kids during rush week so don't let your hopes down if you didn't come around during the fall.

I think all houses dirty rush to some degree...I mean it's kind of unavoidable if you think about it. Freshmen go to parties at these places, meet brothers, they end up having some things in common, the brothers ask them to come back or they just end up going back because they had a good time, and eventually the brothers realize that this is someone they could really see in the new pledge class. Honestly, there is nothing entirely wrong with knowing who you could see as a potential brother. I'm in a sorority, and whenever I meet freshmen, I'm always thinking about whether or not the girl is going to rush or not and if I can see her as a potential sister. Nothing wrong with that. My boyfriend is in one of the houses you mentioned above and he was dirty rushed for a house that he didn't actually end up joining because he realized that a different house resonated more with him. So, dirty rushing doesn't ensure ANYTHING by any means from the perspective of the brothers in the house as well as the guys rushing. It kind of gives the brothers a more "concrete" idea of what kind of people they want in their newest pledge class - what kind of qualities they are looking for, etc. etc. Not necessarily anything more or less. I mean, I'm a girl but this is just my sense of the system based on what many have told me! Good luck!
