sad legacy

by: PNM

I'm a double legacy for DG and I'm going to school here in the fall. Y'all have basically every nationally strong sorority except DG, and Greek life is popular here from what I've heard. So is there any chance y'all will be open for expansion anytime soon? I'll still rush either way, I just feel bad that I wont have the opportunity to continue on the family tradition since both my mom and her mother were DGs.

Alpha Xi Delta is coming this fall so there probably won't be another new sorority after them for at least another two years. Also from what I've heard, we aren't getting DG any time soon. I'm sure it sucks not being able to continue the legacy, but you will for sure find another sorority you like :)

I really doubt DG will ever come back. Back in the 90s when my mom was here DG and Theta were here they had huge problems, like if you added them together they were still smaller than everyone else.
In terms of big national sororities, Alpha Phi seems the most likely to come in a few years. I just wonder if we will get another one after Fuzzy because the number of PNMs is going down so we don't really need expansion.
Also, I am a legacy to a house that I did not join and my mom and I are very happy with my choice.

Why is the number of PNMs going down? And why is Alpha Xi Delta coming here before Alpha Phi? And the thing about DG and Theta in the 90s is all a numbers game. If the number of PNM's is really going down, then the same thing will probably happen to any new sororities or bottom tier ones.

I don't think it's the USC choosing alpha Xi (is that even their nickname?) before alpha phi, I think alpha phi doesn't want to put all the money into a new chapter when they won't even have a house or anything.

Also they are trying to get pledge class sizes smaller to make each chapter smaller

I know of a handful of schools who give a new chapter first priority for sending out snap bids or continuous open bidding in the fall for their first 2-3 years on the campus. That combined with lowering PC sizes is really the best way to ensure that a new chapter will get off to a stable start, but it's also really unfair to other bottom houses who need to give out snap bids. What do y'all think?

Here's how expansion works. A school forms an exploratory committee. The committee votes to open up for expansion. Once a school is open sorority nationals will send in an expansion packet to show they're interested in joining the campus. The committee selects which sororities will come to campus to present. After presentations the committee will decide home many they're taking and what years they join.
In 2012 we opened for expansion and Pi Phi, AOPi, and AXiD presented. We selected Pi Phi and AXiD for a stacked expansion.
Last year a committee was formed, but after all the bad press with fraternities it was disbanded. As of now I haven't heard if another one has been formed.
So in short, no we aren't getting any new chapters any time soon.
