snap bids

by: :)

How hard will it be to get a snap bid in the sorority houses? I can't rush this year because I would miss a day of recruitment and therefore I can't rush. I am really hoping I could somehow get
A snap bid I'm going to be a sophomore, what's my likelyhood of getting a snap bid?

You should contact the head of Greek Life because you may be able to! I've heard of girls having to miss a day for family/health related things!

You can't get a snap bid if you don't go through recruitment. Snap bids are for girls who started the process and dropped. Some are then contacted on bid day and offered a snap bid which they must take before bid day starts.
I suggest calling again and seeing if your reason for missing is good enough. I know some athletes are allowed to miss parties. Either talk to the Greek life office or try to contact the VP or Revruitment. If you can't then you will have to look into COBing. Don't worry about that until you can't your answer.

I know a girl who didn't rush last year and got a snap bid from Phi Mu after rush had ended. Not really sure how that worked but she talked openly about it and is a Phi Mu now.

That was not a snap bid. That was a bid given through continuous open bidding. Snap vids only take place before bid day on the day of bid day.

So, can we sign up for COB if we don't go through formal? Does anyone know of other chapters who gave snap bids or COB bids last year?

No, you can't sign up for COB. Let me explain how this process works. The main way to get a bid is through formal recruitment at the beginning of the school year. It is the only way to see all the chapters and maximize your options. If you start the process but drop, you are eligible for a snap bid. On the day of bid day chapters who have not reached quota can extend a bid to those girls on bid day. Those girls must decide before bid day begins.
After bid day is when COB starts. Chapters who have not reached quota can offer COB bids. If you know someone is these chapters talk to them, say your interested, and they may get you in contact with their chair person who can determine membership.
At the beginning of the spring term chapters that are not at total can elect to do spring recruitment. It is not like formal recruitment and is much smaller. You can submit your resume with the Greek life office and they will share it with these chapters. They will contact you if they want you to attend a party.
This is how you get a bid. The best way is to just do formal recruitment. If you have any questions I suggest you send them to our VP of Recruitment for sorority council or the Greek life office. They will have the best answers to your questions.

Why would a chapter give a snap bid to a girl that dropped out of rush and that they really don't know?

Is a sorority forced to give out snap bids if they don't meet quota? Or is it their option to do COB?
