long-term cost of sororities

by:

For all curious, these are the sororities ranked from least to most expensive over four years. Including 7 semesters of meal plan, and using the data from the 2014 FSL book. Not including extraneous expenses like t-shirts, big/little, etc. It adds up quickly.

Phi Mu $12,631.50
Gamma Phi Beta $13,632.00
Chi Omega $13,680.00
Kappa Kappa Gamma $14,095.00
Zeta Tau Alpha $14,163.00
Kappa Delta $14,241.00
Alpha Chi Omega $14,294.00
Delta Zeta $14,666.00
Alpha Gamma Delta $15,190.00
Alpha Delta Pi $15,574.00
Delta Delta Delta $16,941.00

Is this all inclusive though? Including one time membership fees, membership pins, etc?
I am looking at transferring here from bama, and mine are currently about $4,000 per semester there. Surely there wouldn't be that huge of a cost difference.

This is everything, it's in the pamphlets they gave us at rush. Obvi not including things like tshirts, gifts etc. Bama is incredibly expensive

Why did we post this? This is making the more expensive sororities look less desirable. Let's not...

Unfortunately, price is a real concern for some of us. Having to drop out of a sorority you love because you can't afford it would be absolutely heart breaking. Most of the difference in costs is due to the variance in meal plan-- for example Gamma Phi has some of the most expensive dues (which would make them appear undesirable on paper), but a very inexpensive meal plan, which makes them even out. Tri Delta is middle-of-the-road on dues cost, but has an expensive meal plan. This isn't bashing on any of the sororities, just taking some very readily available information and making it more transparent. Thank you, OP.

I'd like to point out this is including the cost for your food for 3 and a half years as well. I wouldn't necessarily count that as a sorority cost because you're going to be spending that money on food regardless. The majority of OP's price is food. If you can get out of the meal plan, however, sororities end up being around $3,000-$6,000. Here are the prices without the meal plans based off of the Fraternity and Sorority Council.

Chi Omega $3,110.00
Kappa Delta $3,545.00
Phi Mu $3,706.50
Alpha Delta Pi $4,234.00
Delta Delta Delta $4,621.00
Alpha Gamma Delta $5,040.00
Alpha Chi Omega $5,124.00
Zeta Tau Alpha $5,560.00
Kappa Kappa Gamma $5,625.00
Delta Zeta $5,916.00
Gamma Phi Beta $6,177.00

This was based on everything BUT food. Gamma Phi actually spends the least on food out of everyone.... Do some math, it's easy.

Parlor fees are also included in the food cost. So the food really isn't expensive as you make it out to be-- that's technically a different due/fee.

College is already expensive, so a few extra thousand on top of 21 grand really doesn't make a difference to me

By: but honestly...
