suicide bidding
by: PnmNow does suicide bidding work?? I heard that we're on a guaranteed bid system but is that even true? I know it's really risky but if I were to only put the one house after pref would I definitely get a bid from them?

that isn’t how suiciding works, the system works so that if you put down two houses after pref, you are guaranteed a bid to ONE of those houses. If you choose to suicide, you are NOT guaranteed a bid to the one house that you put after pref, and it is very likely you will be released from recruitment.

First of all, they don't call it "suiciding" anymore. It's "Single Intentional Preference", and it affects everyone going through recruitment if you do it. The more girls who SIP, the less likely the chapters and PNMs will match correctly. If nobody SIPs, everyone will get a bid.

clarify further, every sorority ranks each PNM that is invited back for pref, “quota” is the number of girls that each chapter must take in their new pledge class(this is is around 130). There are several lists of PNM’s in order of their rank, so the first list has their top 130 girls. So for example lets say you are invited back to ABC and XYZ for pref round, and after you put ABC as your 1st choice, and XYZ as your second. If ABC has you on their 1st list, it is a match at you get a bid from ABC. If girls on their 1st list choose a different house for pref, then girls from the 2nd list get moved to the first list in rank order until they have reached a full pledge class. In this case you will most likely get a bid from your 2nd choice. If you choose to “suicide" (only put ABC on your card after pref), this does NOT mean you are automatically placed on their 1st list. If you are lucky enough to be on their 1st list, you get a bid. If they reach a full pledge class before they get to you, you will not receive a bid.
