why sororities are liked/get hated on

by: Reasons Why Ppl Talk

AGD: liked because-eager to get involved, seen as nice, unthreatening, sweet girls; hated on because-being so new, they haven't found their "label" yet (which can be a great thing) so people dismiss them as "bottom" and "irrelevant"
AXO: liked because-"guys girls" aka relatively drama free and fun (with the exception of some of this Greek rank drama), outgoing; hated on because-have had very strong pledge classes the past few years and made some question the "tiers", the "guys girls" shtick can annoy other girls
ADPi: liked because-seen as wholesome, smart, involved; hated on because-strong history at USC aka selective, pretty, Southern reputation, sisters tend to hang out with each other mostly so sometimes labeled as "cliquey" aka rude, stuck up, etc.
XO: liked because-reputation as "not typical sorority girls" though you'll still see these girls dressed like girls in every other sorority (the hippie/flower crown trend is just popular right now, XO doesn't really stick out for this), interested/doing the same kinds of things other sorority girls like/do, these girls are nice and friendly; hated on because-have had very strong pledge classes the past few years (same deal as AXO), there's been a lot of talk about them on Greek Rank so that just fuels the bashing on this site, sometimes criticized for smoking a lot of weed but I think that's more due to their "hippie" rep not because they have a big problem with that necessarily

DDD: liked because-strong philanthropy, fun to go out with, outgoing; hated on because-historically strong rep at USC aka selective during rush which can translate to "mean" and "stuck up". Known for being pretty girls (some will say that they have been less so in recent years), criticized for sometimes partying too hard.
DZ: liked because-smart girls (number one in grades currently), nice to each other and others, not necessarily liked because of this but lots of out of state girls (mainly northern, east coast girls); hated on because-DZ is one chapter that isn't hated on too much! The meanest thing I've heard is "mixed bag" which really means that they're pretty diverse (girls from all over, girls with different interests, some knockouts and some Plain Janes, etc.)
Gamma Phi: liked because-involved (especially in Dance Marathon and other chapters philanthropies), seen as sweet and unthreatening, known for strong, close sisterhood; hated on because- a few plain Janes/awkward girls make others dismiss them as "bottom" and "irrelevant". This isn't to say that Gamma Phi doesn't have beautiful, charismatic members because they certainly do.
KD: liked because-never seem to "try too hard", classy when they go out; hated on because- known for being wealthy and Southern which can translate as "stuck up." Tend to hang out with same fraternities aka "reclusive" and not particularly known for involvement in one thing so they get stick with labels like "boring" & "uninvolved

The Truth:
The sororities at USC are simply too big for any of the sororities to really earn any of these labels. In each sororities you'll find tons of members and cliques of girls that are nothing like the stereotype. To my fellow sorority girls- as long as you found your niche/group of friends and have fun in your sorority, there's no point in trying to convince yourselves or others where your chapter stands. Greek life is awesome for everyone in it, so let everyone who's in it (including yourselves) enjoy it. Let this epic "who's moving up/down who's top who's not" fight die. It really is hard enough being a girl, let's stop doing this to each other. To PNMs, hopefully you're not reading but if you are, you've read enough back and forth on this site that hopefully you realize it's all a matter of personal opinion. During recruitment, go with your gut. If you end up in a house you didn't think was for you, give it a shot, and if you still don't like it after a few weeks just drop. Your life will go on. To fraternity men- I think you guys (at least the younger ones) perpetuate this drama more than you think. Be welcoming to girls (greeks and non greeks) at parties/tailgates and find your friends and girlfriends based on personalities and attraction, not letters. Make an effort to mix with all the sororities, you never know who you could hit it off with.
