As someone who uses the term "Yankees" it's all in good fun. Some of the top tier fraternities won't take northerners or Midwesterners (just a couple fraternities) but all the sororities have "Yankees" even adpi. if you're cute and preppy and fun no one is going to care about where you're from! In a tiebreak, a bid or invite might go to someone from Atlanta before someone from New Jersey or ohio, but I can't think of a other situation where it would hurt you!

The Yankee thing, again, is all in good fun and not meant to be offensive most of the time. Most of us southerners recognize that if you'd rather be down here for school it has to say something about you!!

And the tie break scenario I'm referring to already takes all f those things into consideration, sweetie.

You shouldn't try to be preppy if you're not. that's not the only thing we look for in girls. It gives us a bad rep to say that we only look for the same type of girls - rich, preppy, etc. Some of us actually care about other things, not just looks. Pay good attention to those during rush because you don't want to end up in one of the stuck up houses that only cares about those things.

I'm from the north and that didn't stop me from getting any bids from a sorority. Calm down, you'll be fine.
