the house

If I were to join a sorority in the fall, how soon can I move into the house? And if you move into the house, can you use the financial aid that once paid for your room & board on-campus for your sorority dues?

Most sororities it would be your sophomore year, and not sure about using scholarship housing money - it might actually depend on the sorority and whether or not they own the house (I think the newer ones don't own, they lease from kicked out frats whose houses they are currently in).

Pi phi will end up with a house too bc some fraternity will get kicked out as usc continues to try to destroy fraternity life at usc.

my advice is to live in your dorm freshman year so you can meet people from outside your sorority as well!! sophomore year is a good year to live in the house, or later if you go exec, but living off campus at usc in an awesome house is a great part of the experience too!

Well first I want to clarify that most sororities own their house. I think it's only Alpha Gam(who is in Sig Eps house) and Phi Mu (who's house was originally built by Omega Psi Phi) who's nationals didn't build their house. But I don't think those are deciding factors in who gets to live in the house.
Each chapter may decide differently. I think a lot of it comes down to if there is going to be spots in the house from girl's graduating or going abroad. We did have freshman get spots in the house second semester.
It's great that you want to live in the house. Good luck with recruitment.

forgot that phi mus house is actually the q dogs - side note, does anyone know what would happen if/when frats like sig ep and ato come back? we're there actual lease terms when the others moved in? because they should own the houses - no offense to phi mu or phi sig or beta (well, maybe to phi sig or beta) and I'm sure they could get their nationals to build them houses but I'd really love to see ato and even sig ep (they are a lot further away from coming back though I think) back in their houses where they belong. it's really hard to build tradition with the houses when gl just kicks the good fun frats off campus and starts letting new groups rent them put. I hope the renters get their own houses, but ato et al should get their houses back - how does that work?

From what I remember, it depends on who financed the house and the circumstances for leaving. For example, Omega Psi Phi built a house, but was unable to get enough member to live in a house and keep it running. So Pike took over renting the house, but didn't renew their lease and that brings us to Phi Mu occupying it. And they're probably going to stay there.
Now when it comes to all the frat houses that are being occupied it really comes down to who really funded the building of the house. Does the house belong to USC or that organization? If it's the fraternities, then they have to be in good standing once they're back and have enough members to be able to reclaim their house. If it's USC's then it's whoever USC leases it to.

I hope that helps! It's been awhile since I researched all this. I got bored one day and decided to see why which frat got kicked off, when, and why, and this is what I found.

really hope ato can get their house back, they were one of the best fraternities (most down to earth and fun) before they were targeted by GL... it might take a little while for them to come back but they have so much history at usc AS A GREAT FRATERNITY - hopefully things will work out! ps i'm a girl... believe me, ato would be the dead last greek life org to post anything on here.
