sorority legacy question

by:

Hi! I will be going through Rush this coming Fall. I'm a legacy of one of the Top 6 there through my Mom. Will the fact that my Mom is a member of a Clemson chapter hurt my chances since they are out biggest rivals? Also, will other sororities give me a chance, or just assume that I want to pledge my legacy sorority? I would like to have a chance to form my own opinion. Thank you for any input. I'm looking forward to meeting y'all.

The fact that your mom graduated from Clemson will NOT hurt your chances at all! Don't worry even a little bit. Being a legacy from any university will definitely help you in the process. It will not get you a bid on its own, but it will give you special consideration. Unless someone in another sorority knows your family, chances are that no other sororities other than the one your mom pledged will know that you're a legacy. Like say you are a legacy for tri delt--chi o probably won't have any idea that you are a legacy for tri delt. The only time assumptions sometimes end up being a problem is when a PNM's actual sister is an active member in a certain chapter on campus (making her an in house legacy)--then sometimes sororities will assume the PNM will go with her sister's sorority and may not consider her as strongly as a candidate. But it sounds like you have nothing to worry about! Just be yourself and you will find the right home!

Don't PNMs have to put any sorority affiliations on the registration form they fill out? If so, then all the other chapters will know she is a legacy of a certain sorority.

I think they do have to put sorority affiliations on there. Anybody else know for sure?
