spring recruitment

by: sorority22

I am sophomore at Carolina who did formal recruitment this year. I had two houses that prefed me. Ultimately, I decided to do an intentional single preference on a certain sorority and they did offer me a bid. Everything seemed to have worked out, however, looking back I made the decision feeling a bit pressured from friends that were active members in the sorority and now I feel it is not the right fit for me at all. I do enjoy being apart of a sisterhood so I'm thinking I may need to drop but can anyone tell me if I would be eligible to rush in the Spring? I am not initiated yet just a new member but would not want to go through fall recruitment all over again since I am trying to avoid that process twice.

you accepted the bid so you won't be able to rush for an entire year

National Panhellenic rule is that you're bound to a bid for one year, even if you drop. I think (and someone tell me if I'm wrong) the only exception would be if you transferred to another school after this semester. In that case, you could do spring at that school, but not on this campus. The one year rule would apply. Keep in mind that it's usually pretty hard to get a bid from another sorority if you've depledged one on the same campus. If you want to be Greek at USC, really think hard about dropping. This might be your only chance to be Greek here. I'm just telling you this so you can make an informed decision.

A lot of girls depledge and re-rush the next year. But no you can't rush in the spring. you have to wait till fall 2014.

But, you'll be a junior next fall, right? Rushing as a junior who depledged the previous year could be a problem. If you really want to be Greek at USC, you may want to stay where you're at. Just my opinion. Others may feel differently.

Agree completely! Besides being a junior who depledged, you'll have to wait and try formal again. That means you'll have to revisit every sorority, including ones that have already dropped you once. Unless something has changed, and the reason they dropped you isn't there anymore, it will probably happen again. I think it sounds very risky overall, so be sure you're okay with possibly giving up Greek life.
