north v. south

by: confused

I know it isn't supposed to be a deciding factor, but do sororities really look at where a girl is from when making cuts? Some of my friends from the North dropped from rush because they felt like they weren't given a fair chance because of where they came from... I can understand that. People are always assuming they are in my sorority when they are not and then girls from "top tier" sororities are shocked when they hear that they dropped out of rush. But in all honesty, does it matter where a girl comes from? Will they be purposely discriminated against or are they just at a disadvantage because they don't know the system or any of the girls and therefore they fall through the cracks?

Definitely not. When I rushed I has girls from the north at literally every house.

Not entirely true. I'm from South Carolina and I went to a private school and I was still dropped by KD. But was still kept by other "southern" sororities

I'm sure it's true that ALOT of Northern girls fall through the cracks if they don't have friends in the houses. They decided to go to USC because they liked it and hopefully felt our "southern hospitality" when they were making their decisions. If they didn't get into a house, then it's up to them to get to know us and we are all open to seeing them again during recruitment next year. Let's not do this North and South thing....we are not BAMA!

There will be houses that do spring rush, but it is informal and most won't know for at least another month. The only thing you can do is make friends with the girls in the houses you like and ask them. They will invite you to informal parties so you need to make sure they know you are interested.

If you are from the North, you definitely have a little bit of a harder time. Not really sure why it happens, but at least we aren't bama! Plus it's not bad enough to be recognized- I'm sure it happens everywhere.

not saying it's true but don't worry about a house dropping you because you're not from the south or didn't go to a private school... like why would you want to be in a house like that if you're from the north anyway?

The only house that tends to excludes Northerners is KD...however this year it seems like every sorority, including KD, was more welcoming to a more diverse bunch of girls which is absolutely awesome!

Sororities will always judge based on where you are from and who you know
