what the hell is going on with usc's rush?

by:

Can I say something that I haven't seen brought up here before? Is it just me or is Rush at USC a little whack? I am referring to a dear friend who rushed last year at USC. This girl is gorgeous. Blonde hair, blue eyes, the works. She has also kept above a 3.5 gpa the whole time she was in high school. Not only that but she is probably the nicest girl I have ever met and can make a friend from a complete stranger. She was dropped from rush right before pref. So Why are all these rachet girls getting bids? If someone like her can't get a bid, but a truly unattractive girl who looks like she's never even been kissed in her life can get a bid from a top tier?? Anyone else notice this? Maybe there is something that I'm not seeing but can anyone explain this? And not trying to be rude by any of this I've just been curious about it and wonder if anyone else has thought the same thing :)

You aren't fooling anyone, clearly YOU are mad that YOU didn't get a bid! It is because YOU have a nasty little disposition where you think you are better than other girls with amazing credentials. That pretty face you claim to have will get you many places but obvious your personality was too stale to be given a bid to even a low house? Get OVER IT. Love ya

I've seen this plenty, and it confuses me too. Rush is kind of a mystery sometimes to say the least. Some girls in the sororities hate it as much, if not more, than PNMs.

I know so many girls that this has happened too. Girls with good high school gpas, good looks, and recommendation letters get dropped first round without any explanation. Even the girls in charge of rush don't understand it. Pi Chi's even admit it's almost random who goes where.

Sometimes people fall through the cracks. It isn't a precise science and sometimes weird things happen but usually its for the best!

With 1,600+ girls going through rush and many girls talking to 20+ pnms for only a few minutes on the first day its easy to fall through the cracks if you don't make make a big impression on the girls you talk to, even if you are an amazing and pretty all around girl. Sometimes being nervous or shy can come across as being disinterested or boring, when that isn't always the case. Its hard to get a good hand on who someone is after just talking to them for such a short period of time. So all I can say is make sure you have a kickass conversation; be bubbly, be funny, be interested, and be memorable so you won't be forgotten. You can't rely totally on your looks because obviously there are a ton of beautiful girls going through rush.

First off I never meant anything rude by what I said, obviously "Honey" wasn't able to connect the dots. I def agree that you have to make a big impression in the little time you are given to talk to the girls. I am about to start my first year on the other side of rush and I am so excited. So for the rude girl who first responded, go be rude somewhere else. And try to get over the fact that no top tier wanted you at usc so your stuck with the outcasts. byeeee

The outcast reference was biting. Drop the inflammatory middle school behavior.

it's really a mystery and thats the worst part about it. like you have great conversations with a house and then you dont get it back, it makes no sense.

No it doesn't make sense. The same thing happened to me with a couple of houses when I did rush at USC. Like "just saying" said, there are so many girls who go through rush each year. The girls who are already in the houses are good at what they do. They can have an amazing conversation with you and then you never see them again. Unfortunately girls who you would have no doubt that they would get a great house, end up cut before they ever make it to bid day. At my school now we do a spring rush so that the girls can have time to get adjusted to college life and possibly meet some of the girls before rush comes around. I think this helps make the decisions easier for both the PNM's and the sisters

It really is strange. I had a 4.0 GPA and felt like I had awesome conversations with every house, but first round I got dropped by ALL but one, which mysteriously was my favorite house. But it did come as a shock, and I cannot wait to be on the other side next year to see how the whole process works.
