recruiting process

by:

im a pnm and i was doing some reading about the recruitment process and sorority life in general. i read that some sororities actually make a powerpoint with a picture of each pnm and everybody then goes through the slides and the girls talk about each person. i also read that any girl can say what they think about each pnm and can even say "mean" things about them. is this true at usc?

Kd does this. They go through every pnm separately on a PowerPoint

Do you think sororities wait until we meet the pnm's at the first round of recruitment to learn who they are or anything about them? Here's the truth: Every sorority at every school looks at photos on a powerpoint; BUT, if you are imagining that this process is about sorority members doing this to get our jollies out of saying mean things about pnm's then you have been watching too many bad sorority movies. Sororities have a week to meet potential new members and choose a new member class among hundreds of girls, most of whom we have never met, and it is a lot of hard, time-consuming work. We are looking for our future sisters and it is the most important thing we do every year. We study girls' photos so we will recognize them when they show up for rounds and to make sure we know who everyone is; there are so many pnm's we don't want to mix people up. We look at every resume and rec and try to match up pnm's with actives to talk to during rounds who have things in common, such as hometown or extracurriculars or other interests. Each pnm is discussed at some point; some in a quick and cursory way and others in more detail, depending on our interest level in them, with pros and cons being weighed. If an active knows something really great or really bad about a pnm, or has an amazing conversation and connects with a pnm during a round or the total opposite and finds that a pnm doesn't fit with us, she must bring it up. We are sifting through and trying to find the best for us, not wasting time being mean girls. Truth.

thank you for shedding some more light on this! i didnt think that the sororities did it just for fun or to be mean at all. i was more so wondering if a member had a personal problem with a pnm if it would affect her chances of getting into the sorority and i wanted to get an idea of just how much is put into recruitment, and it sounds like you ladies work hard. thank you though!

NGL if an active has a personal problem with a pnm it certainly could affect her chances of getting into that sorority. How much effect would depend on how much influence/respect that member has in her sorority and exactly what the issue the member has with the pnm.

At this point honestly all that matters for most of the sororities is how high you’re ranked on the device

My sorority is getting rid of the PowerPoint part of voting and letting the device (along with comments/ratings of the girls that rushed this pnm) decide whether to keep her

Not every sorority does this.... some sororities aren’t this cruel

It's cruel to discuss potential members during membership selection? Your sorority must just use a sign up sheet!
