I noticed that USC used to have different chapters (like DG)... where'd they go?

Good question. Each chapter has various reasons for why they left. Some were by choice and others had to leave. I know when we were looking into extension we looked at chapters that had been previously on campus and one thing we considered was their reasoning for leaving.

I think some just didn't make quota over and over and were shut down by their national headquarters.
