legacies

by:

I'm a legacy of 1 of the top 6 there. Won't say which one so as to not give too much info. about myself. Anyway, I do want to go into rush with an open mind and decide for myself where I would be most at home. Will I be given this chance, or will I be dropped from all the other top tiers because they think I'm only considering my legacy house? I've heard this happens to legacies and I really want a fair chance to make up my own mind. After all, maybe my Mom's sorority is not for me. Thanks for any input.

being a legacy in general actually makes you more interesting to other sororities as well. Sororities arent going to drop you because youre a leg somewhere else. If they like you, theyll keep you around! Just go in with an open mind, remember that what you hear on greek rank is usually the opposite of the truth

There are a lot of legacies rushing at SEC schools. The majority I know were not dropped by other sororities UNLESS (and here's what seems to be a BIG exception) the PNM has a biological sister who is on the same campus and currently an active member of a sorority there. In that case, the PNM is almost always dropped by others. Most bio sisters on the same campus are in the same sorority. I think sometimes the sisters want it that way, but I also think it happens because the younger sister doesn't have another choice. As long as that isn't your situation, legacy status shouldn't be a problem. Good luck!

That's so true about getting dropped because of your bio sister on campus. My friend rushed this year at auburn and knew it would happen and accepted the fact she would be dropped by other sororities. Even though the older sister was shy and got into a smaller less active sorority and the younger sister is very outgoing and has better grades. She really didn't have a choice.

It's EXTREMELY unlikely that a sorority would drop you because you are a legacy of a different sorority. They aren't kidding when the say it makes you more interesting! Definitely go into recruitment with an open mind, and if you find that you love your mom's sorority, great! If not, there is nothing wrong with that and make the right decision for you!
