Will suicide bidding decrease my chances of getting a bid from that one house ?

It's hard to know/predict either way. Usually it doesn't change your chances of getting a bid from that house, and I've heard that it has helped/hurt girls depending on who you talk to. I have a few friends who suicided and got their chapters, and some who didn't. It really just comes down to dumb luck/how high that house ranks you on their bid list. Let your first choice house know they're your first choice, but probably don't mention that you plan on a suicide bid.

Suiciding NEVER helps you get a bid to that house. It is your place on a house's bid list that determines where you get a bid. The sororities do not know how pnm's rank them so that is never considered. Here is how bid matching actually works: Your two houses rank each PNM, and you rank your two houses. The algorithm will start at the top of the houses' bid lists to match their first choices with PNM's who have also put them first. If your first choice house has you high enough on their bid list to match with you before they reach Quota, then you will get a bid from that house. But, if your first choice reaches Quota before you are matched with them, then the algorithm will try to match you with your second choice house. If you are high enough on their bid list to match before they reach Quota then you will get a bid from that house. If you are not high enough on their bid list to match with them either, then at that point you would get a bid as a Quota Addition and could be matched to either house. The algorithm tries to give Quota Additions to their number one house where at all possible, but must also consider their place on the houses' bid lists, total chapter memberships, and other things. If you only rank one of your two houses and don't match with them, you are out of the running to be a Quota Addition and you will go without a bid at all.

To some extent, yes it will. So after pref, recruitment staff will look at how many girls are left and likely to accept a bid versus the number of houses and determine quota. So lets say for a hypothetical scenario quota is 100 girls per chapter. If you suicide, you must rank between 1-100 OR enough girls who ranked higher than you get put in their other pref house to bump you up to one of those spots for you to get this house. If you do not fall within quota and suicided, you are dropped.
If you don't suicide and list both houses on your mraba, it becomes a numbers game. The computer will look at how you ranked the house versus where you fall on their list. If you are ranked in one of those 1-100 spots for one house and not the other, you'll go there. If you fall below 100 for both houses and this is when quota additions happen.
So the way things are now, if you do everything you're supposed to and you maximize your options, you are guaranteed a bid somewhere. Due to girls prefing different houses, it's not as simple as every house gets 100 girls. So if you're someone who fell below the cut off for both house's lists, you'll get added to one of those house's bid lists, meaning they get 101 girls. They typically take into consideration the girls #1 choice when this happens.
The big thing to note is, NO ONE knows who the quota additions are. You know a house has them, because they got more girls than quota, but you don't know which girls were the addition because this all happens through a complicated computer formula.
So at the end of the day it's up to you, but in my opinion there's more risk to suiciding. It's better to get any bid than to be called by your Pi Chi the morning of.

It is unfortunate that some pnm's believe that suiciding will somehow help them get a bid to a certain house by demonstrating how badly they want that sorority. This is not true at all. It's your place on the houses' bid lists that determine your chances of a bid, and your rankings or suiciding don't affect in the least your placement on a bid list. In fact, the houses don't even know your rankings at all for any round. Bid matching does not consider that you ranked only one house; you either rank high enough to match before they make quota or you don't. If you have only one house at pref and you put that house on your card you will get that bid. Don't suicide; give yourself a chance at that other house and try to make it work!

Only suicide if you want to be a contender for cob, snap bids, or spring rush. But if you suicide you may not ever get into a sorority it just depends on what you want. But also keep in mind the girls in their own sorority know it better than you. You want to go to a house that wants you, not a house that thinks you won’t fit in. If you got dropped by your favorite house it may be for a reason, you will go where you belong if you trust the process.
