blackballed for rush?
by: Charlotte NC
So I'm from North Carolina. Obviously, there are a LOT of people from my city who are going to Charlotte. Well I just read on here that girls can be screwed over during rush because of there high school years??
Well I didn't have the best reputation in high school and I'm sure there are a number of people in sororities who have heard my reputation. it wasn't even like a godawful reputation, it was just probably a typical party girl rep. wellll anyways.. does this mean that when i'm being rushed, i can now be screwed in college? this is gonna sound ridiculous to a lot of you guys, but it's a legitimate concern. don't respond to this by saying YOUR NOT SORORITY GIRL MATERIALL OMMGG IT'S ABOUT SISTERHOOD. because the truth is that there is a laundry list of things considered when yall rush girls.
so i wanna know just how seriously you will take word of mouth ? like just because someone says that a PNM is a certain way doesn't necessarily mean she is that way? like she could just have a personal vendetta against that girl right?
please let me know! and if you're gonna respond to this by telling me all about how i'm going at rush the wrong way then SAVE YOUR BREATH. because i want a real response form this. congrats that you girls are holier than thou because you weren't blackballed during rush. but others have to worry about this very real possibility because we weren't the smartest in high school.

sweetie you need to worry less about getting cut everywhere, and worry more about getting recommendations everywhere. there is no way that these girls who dislike you can affect your chances EVERYWHERE. they would have to go to extensive lengths for that to happen.
but i will say, they can easily just tell their friends in other sororities about you, and the truth is, unless you're crazy gorgeous or you had like a 4.3 in high school.. you're not going to overcome the reputation you have created for yourself. i don't know why you didn't think about this sooner. that's why people go AWAY for college. they don't go to a school where everyone knows what they've done.

What's done is done. All you can do is move forward and do what you can to increase your odds of having a good recruitment. Honestly, though, you came in here sounding like your back was up and your claws were out. Maybe that's because you had "just read" the info that upset you, but you need to pull all that back in. No point worrying about what you can't control, which includes member selection. Focus on what you can control: Get recommendations to every chapter, make sure all your social media is in good shape, choose now to keep an open mind throughout rush and go into it with your best foot forward. Good luck to you!

Honestly with this attitude it sounds like you arent even a good fit for greek life, maybe you should consider going to a smaller school with a less competitive greek life. In the SEC we don't mess around, there are wayyy too many amazing, competitive girls to waste a spot on a potential risk who doesn't even sound that invested in the purpose of a sorority: SISTERHOOD. I literally cannot get over how low class/bratty/disrespectful you sound. NOT character traits we look for in a PNM...

First off, lose the attitude with the whole "Holier than thou". I personally know my sorority does take every members personal opinion very seriously. Partying is one thing but if you were an absolute mess in high school or did one really bad thing, we will vote as a chapter about whether or not we want to continue rushing you based on if a sister brings it up as a concern. That being said, the sorority won't always 100% deem you out if you did one bad thing. It's a majority vote. The reason we do this is because we don't want two girls that hate each other from high school or whatever in the same sorority. It hurts the sisterhood. We want members who glorify each other. Good luck during rush! I'm sure you're just overthinking it.

you may be over thinking it your rep may not be as bad as you think it is. But back to what you said, yes just because one girl doesn't like you doesn't necessarily mean you'll be blackballed but depending on the circumstances you might still have a good chance of that happening. Maybe Greek life isn't for you

ok but you can't base your college choice off of whether or not people at that school like them? that's ridiculous
