not getting a bid...?help
by: uscgirl
How common is it for a girl to not get a bid? I really want to rush but the thought of me not getting a bid would seriously be so embarrassing. I wouldnt want to rush bottom tier sororities either.
What are some reasons that girls get NO bids from any sorority???

if you have that type of opinion, we don't want you. Y'all need to remember that you're joining a sorority for the sisterhood, not for the label you get that comes with it. If you think that you wont get a bid, then there's obviously something that you're insecure about. but if you're a sane, normal person that can hold a conversation then you will be fine. I'm so sick of the superficiality of the PNM's. get over yourselves.

The girls I know from last year that didn't get bids suicided by putting down only 1 sorority on their bid cards. They went to 2 prefs but just couldn't see themselves as members of one or had their hearts set on just one sorority. They're planning on rerushing this year.

If you're interested in rushing for the "label" that you think it may give you, don't rush. It's about going in looking for a sisterhood and honestly you sound like you are going in looking to put together a certain "reputation" for yourself that you think you'll get just because you may get to walk around in the letter of a top tier house. Rush is about finding the best fit for you, and a house feeling like you're a good fit for them. Bottom line.

Please don't go into rush closed minded. Saying you only want to join a top tier house is very short sighted. After all, it is really the sororities that have all the power here when it comes to deciding who they want. PNM think they do, but they really don't. Pledge classes numbers will go down this year with the addition of AGD, so it will be extra hard if you are only open to certain houses. Good luck!

a message to legacies. You are not guaranteed a bid to your legacy house. Don't think you can coast in...you will be cut with that attitude. I feel for y'all though because you have it extra hard if you are a legacy of a top tier here. The other top tiers think you will pledge your legacy house and most likely will cut you too. They won't want to waste time and a spot on you. Good luck

Hi, I do a lot of recs and advise PNMs rushing in the SEC, ACC, Big 10 and other competitive recruitments. The number one reason PNMs go bidless? They CHOOSE to drop out of recruitment. And the number one reason they do this? They don't like their return invites after a certain round. They get dropped by their favorites and that's it. They're done and won't even give other sororities a chance.
You know what? Most of those PNMs end up regretting it. Rush ends, they see sororities and meet member in "real life" and they realize that the girls in ABC, LMN and XYZ really are great and that they might've found a sorority home they loved. Getting dropped by a favorite hurts, it does, but you have to look at everyday of recruitment as a new chance. Move on and focus on the sororities that do invite you back. Opinions can change a lot as recruitment goes on, you meet more sisters and learn more about the houses. Try to find new favorites and see it through.
If you drop, you definitely won't be running to your new sisters on Bid Day. And that is why the majority of bidless PNMs endup that way. Some decide to rush again the next year and try once more for the houses that cut them. Sometimes it works out, but in competitive recruitments, second time around is often harder unless something big has changed since their first try.

Thank you, but unfortunately, the voice of experience is there because I've seen too many PNMs do this. You put things beautifully, though -- "a bid from any sorority is a gift of sisterhood." PNMs who go into recruitment with that mindset are most likely to find the best fit, and when they find the best fit, odds are good they will have a very positive experience as a member. You get what you put into it, right?
The system is designed to work so that PNMs will, as you said, end up where they should. I know more than a few who accepted bids to their second choice and never looked back. They realized that, if they had to rank again, their second choice would have been first!

we could all sit here and play the sisterhood card. but here's the truth: you will find sisterhood no matter where you go. it's just a question of whether or not your sisterhood will be top tier or bottom tier. if you want top tier sisterhood, be gorgeous. use this summer to get super toned. do not fake bake. we literally can't stand orange girls. get GREAT recommendations. clean up the social media. and do not go into rush closed minded.

Great advice Alum. You're the voice of experience. Recruitment in the SEC is competitive. It is hard to get dropped by your favorites, but things generally do work out for the best. We all join sororities for the sisterhood and any one of the 11 sororities here can provide that. You will end up where you are supposed to be. After all, a bid from any sorority is a gift of sisterhood. Accept it graciously and be thankful.
