greek life
by: transfer? So I'm potentially thinking about transferring to USC but was wondering how their greek life is. I have heard that their frats have been on "probation"? Are there any frat parties or anything that go on or is the only thing to do go to bars? Do the frats and sororities have functions like formals and date parties or is there hardly any interaction? I'd love to know more about their greek life but its hard to find any info about it...

Frats are not on probation. There are frat parties and darties (day parties) every weekend. Tailgates still happen. Sometimes frats rent out bars as well and get tabs. Almost every fraternity had a bar rented out in 5 points. There are mixers (which are the frats mixing with sororities) and fraternities also have date parties about twice a semester. Sororities usually have 3-4 date parties a semester. Fraternities also have one weekend each semester where they either go to the beach (usually in spring, called beach weekend) or they go to Tennessee (usually in fall, called mountain weekend). There is a LOT of interaction.

USC Greek Life is alright. You'll join a fraternity and meet your friend group there but mainly you'll end up all going downtown together. I personally like the bar scene better than house parties when they do happen just because there's always a different crowd of girls out at different bars. There are a few day parties that fraternities will have at off campus houses every year and they're always an absolute blast but expect them to get shut down after a solid four or five hour run. Same thing with pregames. The fraternities have a lot of awesome events too like Mountain Weekend, Formals in Charleston, Beach Weekend, etc. to get out of Columbia with a date for the weekend. Sororities are always having date functions and its easy to find a friend that knows a girl who needs a date. Tailgates are insane but the school lately has been putting a damper on them.
