joining a newer sorority

by:

I'm looking in to alpha xi and am curious about what it's like to be a founding member of an organization. Is it difficult to be part of a newer sorority? What are the advantages/disadvantages?

Being a founding member is an amazing opportunity! You get to be the deciding factor for a long long legacy of people to come after you. And there will me so many more leadership opportunities from the start! It looks great on a resume

Honestly, for the first few years it sucks. I'm an alum of a newish chapter and my experience is that while it is great for personal growth it sucks for a lot of other reasons. Other sororities will make fun of you and not participate in your events and very few fraternity's will want to mix with you. It's an uphill battle because the community looks for reasons to knock you down and will not acknowledge your achievements or improvements. The new sorority is always looked at as the "reject" sorority. But I can say when my sorority started here it was mostly women who never thought of going Greek before and then a small % that dropped out of recruitment. Just to put that in perspective.
