message for the class of 2024
by: Class of 2023Hey incoming class of 2024 I just wanted to write a message because I am a current freshman and I now have gone through formal recruitment and joined a house. During this spring semester with the Greek “pause” as part of the plan moving forward in pretty sure that there are no freshman going to be allowed at parties. Especially not the first week. Anyways for the ladies please don’t get your heart set on one house. We are young and it’s so easy to care so much about stereotypes and the opinions of others. I can’t say that rush is not superficial it one hundred percent is. But through rush you can find a house that is right for you. I had really wanted to be in one sorority all of first semester but when I walked into the house on the first day I just felt out of place. My conversations were not good and the women I spoke to did not have similar interests to me. I knew after the first day of rush which house felt like home. I was fortunate to join that house and I definitely recommend being in a sorority if you want to. But there are other aspects to Lehigh aside from Greek life. There are club sports and other clubs that offer the same since of community. First semester is so amazing because everyone comes in wanting to make friends and for the first few months every new day is super exciting. So take advantage of that time to make connections. Additionally don’t rush or want to be in a particular house just because of your friends. Even if you don’t wind up in a house and your friends do or your friends wind up in different houses stay connected with your first semester friends. Take advantage of the on campus events. Anyways every house has attractive people also attractiveness is subjective. Don’t try to force things because at the end of the day I know that I would rather be somewhere that I can be myself over a place where I have to be something I’m not. Good luck and welcome to Lehigh!
