competitive?
by: LuI will be going to Lehigh next year and I really want to rush. On my tour my guide mentioned that a decent amount of students are involved in Greek life, but when looking at sororities Instagram pages, their pledge classes looked really small. Is Greek like not as prevalent or is rush really competitive and selective?

Participation is down for guys this year. It seems about the same as last year for girls.
Rush is fairly competitive for girls. Less for boys this year cuz frats are trying to get more members. I think hazing deterred some of the wimpy guys from rush. Maybe we will get some real men next year!

There was a poll on rank about 6 weeks ago that asked how likely greek system at Lehigh would make in intact several dates including the end of the school year (several schools had recently closed down greek life so there may have been an effect there). 75% of responses said greek life at Lehigh would not make it pass this year. If new students see greek life as something only for a year or two then of course fewer would want to join.
The IFC and PanHel need to figure this message promoting longevity of Lehigh greek life to new students because the greek blog facts suggest and Admin and LUPD is determined to end the TFM fun of college. I do not believe freshmen this year are afraid of hazing because I know several who came from heavy hazing prep and boarding schools who were psyched about greek life until the school year started and they saw how greek parties were especially targeted. These guys are concerned that within a year or two the house or the whole system will be shut down due to some event like seniors throwing an epic blowout spring party etc or someone getting badly hurt or worse.
Same phenom has happened across the US for IFCs as a whole during the spring rush not so much with the fall rush. Ask your nationals what they saw in recruitment. Its not a year of freshmen afraid of hazing, its freshmen uncertain of the system being there for them in the future. Next year's freshmen will be interested in knowing their house will be on campus forever as well - how to do convince them it will?

Most girls who rush will get a house, but a decent amount end up dropping out when they don’t get the ones they want. The fact that the PCs are 25-30 people (so 200ish total) is not small considering there are only like 500 something freshmen women every year. Also I know about 260 girls rushed this semester, so if around 200 ended up in a house the odds are pretty good.

For girls and guys it’s not hard to get in A house if you’re somewhat social and a cool person. That being said, the higher you go up the tier system, the more selective these places will be about looks, personality, connections, and how you’re gonna contribute to them maintaining or moving up their ranking. Just keep that in mind.
