This type of stuff happens every year to varying degrees. This is why several posters on here have repeatedly told NPMs to make an effort at the middle houses even when you think you are a lock for a top house.

I can almost guarantee that a few of the girls who got dropped thought they were a lock and made no effort at the 5 middle houses. If those houses don't think you want to be there, you can quickly go from a near miss at a top 3 house, to being shut out completely. It happens much more than you would think.
