what will happen during formal recruitment 2018
by: panhel
As you may or may not be aware, one of Lehigh’s Panhellenic sororities, Alpha Chi Omega, was
placed on interim suspension by the University on December 12, 2017. The interim action is being
taken in accordance with the Lehigh University Code of Conduct, and allegations under
investigation include the chapter hosting, planning, and/or executing a road rally that encouraged
illegal and/or proscribed activity. Separately, Alpha Chi Omega Fraternity headquarters is also
investigating the chapter for alleged violations of its policies.
We recognize there are implications for recruitment in January and we want to take a moment to
provide additional transparency and address some concerns.
What’s going on with recruitment?
The timeline for the investigation will extend through January, and will not conclude prior to the
beginning of the spring semester. As a result, Alpha Chi Omega will be unable to participate in
Panhellenic Formal Recruitment. The Panhellenic Council is currently working through minor
adjustments to the logistics of recruitment to accommodate the change which will be
communicated during PNM Orientation on Tuesday, January 16 at 5 PM.
What does this mean for PNMs and Panhellenic chapters?
There is just as much opportunity for PNMs to join our community. There is not a limited number
of spots available in the recruitment process. Should registration numbers reflect previous years,
the 8 active chapters would likely end up with slightly larger new member classes.
Will Alpha Chi Omega be able to take a new member class in spring 2018?
Their ability to offer bids to potential new members will be determined following the conclusion of
the investigation and any outcomes resulting from the disciplinary processes.
