dphie spring rush

by: uga dawn

Thoughts on DPhie? I'm going to their spring rush event. Who else is recruiting this spring? I don't really know anyone in the sororities so haven't heard any of my friends talk about it.

DPhiE is new. They just came to UGA this past fall. They have a weird mix of girls. Some really great girls went there because they wanted to opportunity to be a founding member and build something from the bottom up, but everyone else is upperclassmen or girls who got cut by everyone during normal rush. I'm sure you'd make friends there if you joined, but they're bottom tier and don't have the benefits of being an established sorority. DG and AGD are also doing spring and probably a few others, so I'd personally go with one of those two if you get an invite and are looking for a more typical sorority experience.

I have a few friends in DPhiE and they're all very passionate about their house and they seem like they've grown really close in a short amount of time. They'll have a house in the fall which will give them the typical sorority experience.

Take a look at them but keep your mind open to other chapters that are doing informal, like DG and AGD and select the house that feels like home.

DPhiE is off to a great start. They're Top Tier at Kennesaw and improving here. I think they'll work hard and build a solid reputation.

No one cares who's top at Kennesaw. They're bottom at Southern & they're bottom here. Not the end of the world

I have lots of friends in DPhiE. Many of them are just girls who never rushed and a couple withdrew from formal recruitment. I haven't met anyone in it who was dropped from formal but who knows. Even though they're new, they all seem so close and so passionate about their sisterhood. They'll have a house next year so it'll be the typical sorority experience. They're really strong nationally and top tier at KSU. I mean I guess why not try it out?

I wouldn't say they're strong nationally since they had under 100 chapters before this year. I will say that their Kennesaw chapter gives a lot of hope that they can succeed here which I think they will.

Strange how a massive surge of downvotes on any comment supporting DPhiE happened at once... Not suspicious at all.

DPhiE is working really hard to expand but they are def not strong nationally. They are bottom tier everywhere, I don't know why they're even bothering

Bottom tier everywhere? Like at NYU, Miami, UF, Maryland?

Sure there are definitely some bottom tier dphie chapters but every single sorority (except maybe alpha phi) has bottom chapters at various campuses.

Go for it! You have nothing to lose and you'll meet tons of girls! I'm a junior in another sorority here but I know several dphies and they are all very sweet/genuine and excited about the future of their sorority!

I transferred from Southern and affiliated here, not DphiE but from a mid house there to a mid house here. I will tell you this DphiE is a great great house. They are only bottom at southern because they are so new. They are about to surpass KKG there (yes it is bizarro world that KKG is bottom of the barrel anywhere but its true at Southern). The fact that a lot of gorgeous, sweet and real girls transfer from KSU to GSU and expecially to UGA does make a difference. I've never met a single DphiE who wasn't someone I'd be friends with. All that being said it isn't a "if you can't go Greek go tke" kinda situation but check all every single house you are invited to and express your interest to friends in all of the houses listed above.Good luck!

just like at southern there were a bunch of hot DPhiE's from KSU who transferred to Southern and UGA to help the chapter start up!! they aren't looking to move to top tier and be that sorority that everyone hates for being annoyingly competitive so soon, for now all they are trying to do is build respectable chapters at both schools. they will do fine here and in the next few years they should pass a handful of lower houses who don't do much.

No one would really transfer for their sorority. But KSU and Southern students do transfer, by kind of large numbers.

They have the unicorn sign and a hand sign shaped like a delta. So what?

This is so nitpicky tbh...most sororities have an animal mascot or some sort of symbol that they do a hand sign for...AOPi does panda ears. Pi Phi does halos. DPhiE does a unicorn sign. Moving on....

As a transfer from KSU I can tell you DPhiE is only top there because they were one of the first two sororities to colonize there in the 80's, the first being PhiMu. They get so many return rates because the next sorority to colonize after DPhiE was Gamma Phi, who didn't have such a great start, then AOll who are pretty good. There wasn't another big name sorority at KSU until KD who are only 5 years old and ZTA who are just two years old colonized. AZD just colonized too and they have about as good of a name as AOll.

Pretty much everyone in the sorority there knows DPhiE isn't a strong national sorority and know they got really lucky there but are eager to help them grow all throughout Georgia.

I'm a DPhi from another GA school thinking about transferring to UGA and no, it's not for the sorority experience. UGA has my new major, current school doesn't.

I don't understand the emphasis on national tiers. I mean after I graduate, if I need job help or whatever, I'd rather turn to my chapter sisters than a national org that doesn't know me.

And as far as DPhiE is concerned, maybe they'd be a top chapter even if they colonized late. Tiers are such a campus thing. My cousin goes to Northeastern and DPhiE is one of the oldest orgs but not the top, partially because they don't care what everyone thinks of them and they seem to love their sisterhood regardless.
