i'm so glad i went in blind

by: bottom tier but happy

To begin with rush itself is incredibly overwhelming. It is intimidating, and inhumane. But mostly shallow. As an out-of-stater, I knew no one in any of the sororities, and came in with only the recs from people I contacted when I decided to go through with the recruitment process way back in april. I didn't even know greek rank was a thing at the time until late august after I accepted my bid. And I'm so glad that I did. I'm in a lower tier sorority. And I'm damn proud to be representing them. I went to three different Pref events (of all different tiers), and at the end of the day I chose my sorority because of one girl who I absolutely fell in love with, who I am so happy to say is my big today. I fell in love with this sorority because of their philanthropy, and how genuine all my conversations felt with them during recruitment. And I don't regret my decision for a second. Any of the other sororities just wouldn't have been me.
But you see, I wasn't looking for a good social calendar, or people to go out and get smashed with. I was looking for a genuine sisterhood and I found that. And the truth is that you can find that in any of the sororities, and I believe with all of my heart at the end of the day, it doesn't matter which frat you hooked up with, but rather the sisters that surround you through the rest of your days. The bridesmaids at your wedding, the girls around your hospital bed, and the people who listen to you when you need a friend.
