I just finished talking two nieces through rush, and it was a very hard process for them. It started out fun, but the numbers made it tough. I do think being a legacy doesn't mean much, and it really shouldn't. There must be enough legacies for each house's pledge class to be full of nothing else. Plus, the houses' personalities change through the years and wouldn't be the same as when I was there. One niece picked GPB right away as her favorite and is still hoping for that after prefs. It wasn't even on campus when I was there. The other still has ZTA in the mix, but I hope she feels no obligation based on legacy. So many girls I know drop out after their pre-rush favorite cuts them, and that is really too bad. Reputations really don't mean that much when you are talking about 150 girls--most of the great girls attending UGA rush would fit in just about anywhere.

My daughter just completed rush and like many alumna I assumed that she would follow in my footsteps. She picked PBP in the first round. Far from being upset I am thrilled that she felt at home in a wonderful UGA sorority. I am proud that she is her own woman and knows that her mom just wants her to be happy. It's important for Alumna to realize that the sorority they knew 25 years ago probably bears to resemblance to the one currently in existance! Fingers crossed sweet girl that you get your first pick!

May tomorrow be a good day for all and best wishes to all the new pledges. One consideration however not all have had a great week so as you get to know you new sisters please make a point to meet someone outside your sorority, who knows she may become a new friend. Thank you.
