I'm baaaaack! I know you've all missed me since rush last year. Hope all is well in Athens.
This year I will address the mothers instead of the girls, given the current conversation. Ladies, please remember that one of the points of women's fraternal organizations is to teach members leadership, friendship, teamwork, and articulation of and cooperation around common goals. Even if the chapter itself has some issues, your daughters' pledge classes are now at least 1/4 of the chapter! And that means they can change the chapter for the better. Isn't that what every house wants anyway - continual improvement? In a perfect world your daughters would end up at houses where they felt 100% comfortable all of the time. That won't happen - didn't even happen to Kappa Lady. But Kappa Lady's mama raised her right - and I was able to withstand peer pressure and, with a close group of friends, make some positive changes in the culture of my house (which already was a wonderful place).

So, in conclusion, your daughters will join a group of women but remain individuals - and you must support them in their journey of self-exploration. Help them decide and articulate a few core values, and then remind them that if they stand tall, smile, are well-groomed, polite, pleasant, well-spoken, and confident, they can cling to those values and stay true to themselves in any situation. Now if they mope or hide or make a big fuss, then they won't make any change in their chapter's culture - but if they gracefully stand firm while still being sweet and fun with their sisters, they can move mountains.
Best of luck to all the mamas,
Kappa Lady
P.S. - To all the actives who want to come on here and pooh-pooh me, I'm just turning my beautiful cheek so you can see that both sides are my best sides!

Why thank you, XO Lady. It is so wonderful to know there are others out there. Best wishes for a successful rush to the lovely UGA XO Chapter. I just recently gave a baby shower for a friend, and another mutual friend who attended is an alumna of that chapter and is just a lovely, gracious, and smart lady.
