Why does money always come up on this board? Does being from a wealthy family make you a good candidate for a sorority or fraternity? I've known some wealthy people with a lot of class who are great people. I've also known some sorority girls (and GDIs) who come from no money who are great, classy people. The flip side is also true. I've met some ridiculously wealthy people who are total self-involved jerks. Money CAN'T buy class. I find it disconcerting that people seem to think that having a lot of money makes you magically wonderful or lends clout to your sorority. Ridiculous, ladies. Before you become friends with someone or let a guy know you are interested, do you ask for a financial statement? I come from a working-class family and quite frankly, I'm a terrific person and an asset to my sorority. Money may make certain things EASIER, but it doesn't make anyone BETTER.

Absolutely agree with the poster below. There is one sorority here at UGA that recruits almost exclusively girls who went to private schools. In my opinion this should exclude them from being considered a top tier sorority. Without diversity a house cannot be considered as well rounded, inclusive and a true sisterhood. Why do these houses continue to recruit only those exactly like themselves? Beats me.

I know all the old row, top tier sororities that have a lot of private school girls, out-of-state girls, and in-state girls all combined in their houses. There is NOT one sorority that is top tier, old row that only has private school girls. I don't know where you got your info, but believe me, it's WRONG.

The mere fact that you talk about Top Tier, Old Row sorority - kind of proves the point - snooty, haughty, Old South - time to face facts - time has moved on UGA is full of wonderful girls from different cultures, different colors, different religions - the time of the Old South has gone
