rushing as a sophomore
by: Just WonderingMy two sisters and my mom were all in the same sorority, ADPi, but not at UGA. I was thinking of transferring to UGA and of rushing in the fall, but don't know many people in the sororities would having family members who were in a sorority help me, as a sophomore, have a chance to get a bid?

There are SO many legacies now that sororities can't take all of them. I know two amazing ADPi legacies who were dropped in 2013 by the chapter here, but they love the sororities they're in. (KD and AXO.) While the family connection is cool, chapters can be so different. Your mom's sorority might not be your sorority, you know? You want the best fit for YOU, which you'll only find if you keep an open mind. Plus, UGA recruitment is too competitive to focus on one place. That's true for everyone.
We have an upperclassman quota, which can help but guarantees nothing. I will say, I know quite a few sophomores pledged here last year. Believe it or not, I know one who was released as a freshmen, came back as a sophomore and pledged a chapter that most PNMs consider top tier. She had friends inside, but my point is that nothing is impossible.
Given your legacy status, I get your interest in ADPi. I really do and UGA has a great chapter, so it won't hurt to get on their radar. Maybe your mom or an older sister can contact a local alumnae group and get you introduced to ones who work with the chapter who can introduce you to some actives, even if it's just through FB. As long as it's done in a classy, non-stalker way, there's nothing wrong with that. As a sorority member, I know we're always open to tips (from people we know) about potential sisters. UGA is a great school and you'll love it if you decide to transfer!
