Mom & Grand Want Me to Pledge their SRAT
by: But I can't promiseSo my mom & my dad's mom both were in the same srat ( many years apart 😄) & don't want to hear of me pledging ant other srat (as if I have that power!) Please if you've had this situation how did you deal with it with your family? Kniw they mean well. I just want to be rushed by girls I feel most comfortable with & hope that they feel the same about me. Thanks for any advice!

You're right, you don't have that much power and maybe they don't really understand that because recruitment is not like it was in their day. They may be thinking that you will have your choice because of your legacy status, because it used to be that a legacy bid was practically guaranteed if the pnm wanted it. That advantage is gone. There are no more special courtesies given to legacies like there used to be: no automatic second round invite, no automatic top of the bid list after pref. You won't have the "in" they might be counting on for you; a legacy is just another pnm now. And is it possible that where they went to school their rush might have been a very different situation where pnm's had more say and could pick and choose the chapters they rushed? Because you probably know that it's not going to be like that at all for you but actually about which chapters will pick and choose you. Mom and Grand may not realize any of this because rush has changed over the years and because rush at a huge school like uga is really driven by numbers and percentages based on the sororities' ranks of the pnm's.
Reassure them that yes it would be soooooo special to share a sorority bond with them and you HOPE that it might work out that way. Leave it at that for now but this is your rush and your four year college experience that you can only have once. They had theirs. You need to be able to go with your heart and your gut and your recruitment without guilt. Rank your chapters the way you want when the time comes and see what happens.
