It depends. If you are coming from out of region or otherwise have zero relationship to anyone here then it wouldn't hurt at all to get recs because it shows you care and are willing to make the effort. If it comes down to choosing between you and another pnm just like you, and you got a rec and they didn't, you could get the upper hand. It ticks a box in your favor. Even connected girls from heavily recruited areas and high schools make the effort to get recs to give themselves every edge and make their own choices matter. If it would be a real hardship for you to get recs then don't knock yourself out, but you never know when they're going to make a difference.

It is a lot easier now to get recs because some sororities will accept them from a third party (non-alumna) if they know you well personally, like someone from your school or a job or volunteer position. That person could write multiple recs for you if they are willing and you make it organized for them.

Recommendations are not highly considered, do not hyper fixate on getting them. Connections are the main thing that will get you into a sorority.
