DG on the rise?

by:

With PC 21 and 22, I have a feeling DG is going to become a lot more competitive in the next few years. This new PC 22 looks amazing and apparently they got over quota. I wouldn't put it past them to start recruiting on the levels of the other solid middle tier sororities in the upcoming years. Excited to see what happens, I feel like they deserve a little more love than they seem to get.

DG seems to be really solid after this year compared to some of the other lower mid houses. I saw some of their bid day pics on insta and it looked like they got a huge PC with mostly pretty girls overall.

I think a lot of posts here are written by girls in top/upper mid houses that tend to put DG towards the bottom by default if they’re mainly focused on ranking the top sororities. But after recruitment it seems like more people are starting to notice the changes to some of the lower ranked houses like DG and GPhi improving and AXO and Pi Phi slipping a bit. If they can get a good PC next year too, I definitely think they can move up to mid tier - they just need to prove if they can consistently recruit at that level.

Agreed! I’m friends with several 2nd year DGs and honestly they could just as easily fit in with my (mid tier) house. They’re super nice too so I’m glad their chapter is doing well.

I completely agree. Pi phi has not had a good pc in at least 4 years. Kappa too. It’s actually embarrassing for kappa. phi mu and gphi both had really good pcs this year. AXO, DZ, Kappa, tri delt, pi phi, ADG, and maybe even theta are all struggling.

I agree - actually see the same thing happening with AGD as well. Most people are ranking certain sororities only ignoring the fact that DG and AGD are defaulted to low like you said. Meanwhile, these houses are really attracting great women in an under the radar way. I knew two girls in my rush group who were debating between ‘upper tier’ houses and AGD at prefs. Also, know of another friend who was debating between Kappa and DG.
Very interesting for sure.

alpha gam did steal a few girls from top/mid tier srats this year but their overall pc 22 looks weaker than normal tbh. they also got a bunch of girls whose other pref was pi phi or dphie. alpha gam has some great girls for sure but they’re just so inconsistent compared to the other lower mid houses.

Alpha gam’s pledge class is like:

15% top tier “why tf did they choose alpha gam?!” girls who probably preffed at upper mid/top houses

15% solid upper mid tier girls who could have just as easily ended up in AOPi/SK/DDD

25% mid/lower mid tier girls who also preffed at AXO, APhi, DG, DZ etc…

45% girls who either only had alpha gam for pref or had them + Pi Phi/DPhiE.

Alpha gam always seems to get a few surprising girls, but never enough to give them any significant improvement overall.

I agree. My little sister and her friends all prefed either DG/AGD and then an upper house like Tri Delt, Kappa, Phi Mu, ADPi. After they went to the rounds most of them even ranked DG/AGD first. While it might have been true in the past about DG and AGD not getting the best pledge classes, I feel like they are both really turning things around

dg was originally over quota because they had their best and coolest girls rushing. once the new girls met the rest of the actives and realized that DG isn’t what they thought during rush, they dropped. i have four friends who dropped dg/are going to bc they were mislead during rush.

Every sorority has a few girls drop shortly after recruitment. Whether it’s for financial reasons after seeing the actual cost of being in a sorority, not vibing with their pledge class after bid day, or second guessing the time commitment/wanting to get more involved in non/Greek organizations, there are always some new members who decide it’s just not for them regardless of what tier they’re in.

No idea where the rumors about tons of girls dropping are coming from tbh. I haven’t heard anything unusual like that from anyone on campus, including the 2 DGs I’ve met in my dorm.

The 2022 DG PC is totally hot. Whoever dropped shouldn’t have. Two years and Dg is solid upper mid.

problem with dg is they pay for quota additions to put them over 100 in fall and they do spring recruitment, it’s bc they have bad retention, they loose around 30-40 girls each fall pc that’s why they have to keep paying for more and spring recruiting

This is just false. Sororities don’t pay for quota additions. Quota additions work like this:
1) sorority A and sorority B invite a PNM back for pref round, but after pref, both sororities rank the PNM toward the bottom of their bid lists.
2) the PNM’s ranks sorority A as her 1st choice and sorority B as her second choice (important: she does rank both houses, if she suicides, she would be cut from recruitment in this situation)
3) During the matching process, both sorority A and sorority B hit quota before they get to the bottom of their lists of girls who attended their pref.
4) because the PNM ranked both houses after pref, she is guaranteed a bid, so she ends up in sorority A (she gets her first choice since her second choice, sorority B, had also met quota). Since sorority A already met quota before they got to her, she’s considered a quota addition.

So basically, if a house ends up with a bunch of quota additions (like DG this year), it means that a lot of the girls they preffed also preffed at other houses that met quota and ranked DG first. Typically this happens with sororities who did better than normal during recruitment so they didn’t make as many cuts before pref round based on their projected results.

that’s how it’s supposed to work but they can also pay for extra girls who ranked their house first even if their second doesn’t meet quota, that’s why dphie gets so few girls bc most girls pref dg and dphie together but if the girl ranks dg first they often pay to get her after they meet quota but before dphie does. if it worked properly the way you described every house would meet quota

Lol is basically right, but if someone only gets invited back to one pref and signs a bid card, they are guaranteed a bid to that house regardless of where they are on the bid list. Though with the computer system matching and going from 8 houses to 2, it’s less likely that you only get one pref invite. Most people have 2 but a lot have a mix across tiers (mid and lower but similar vibes). Source: former VP membership.

No house pays for members, quota adds COB or otherwise. That’s crazy.

Lmao at the people on here making up baseless lies to try to make DG look bad

DG and DPhiE didn’t pref many of the same girls at all. Most of the girls who ended up in DPhiE had already dropped from all the other houses (including DG) before pref. If DPhiE had the same girls as DG during pref, they would have gotten way more than 27 girls since they would have gotten the girls who ended up as quota adds in DG (since the matching system will put a PNM in her second choice if her first choice already met quota but the second choice is still under).

Good point about guaranteed bids for PNMs who only had one pref invite to begin with. I did hear from a girl in Panhellenic that out of all PNMs who attended pref round this year, over 93% had invites to 2 houses, and of the 7% with only one house at pref, the majority of them just had DPhiE (and most dropped as we saw with their small PC size).
