UGA sororities from a gx
by: GX
One of my sorority sisters was showing me a post on this site and I had to laugh at what I was seeing. I was a gamma chi this year and got to see up close and personal how all of the different sororities on campus were recruiting and how my girls felt about them. Here's what I saw
Adpi, Theta, Kappa Phi Mu
AOII, KD, ZTA
Chi O, DDD, SK (Chi O gets a very specific type of girl and is a kind of niche sorority. Tri delt and SK are interchangeable in terms of rank, but they attract very different kinds of girls.)
Any group within these ^ tiers is going to get a lot of the girls they want and have great alumni and social relations.
Gphi, DZ, Aphi, AXO (alpha phi and gphi did not "move up" a tier this year. That doesn't really happen. I can see aphi improving in the future but it will take time, and I can't say the same for gphi.
Pi Phi, AGD, DG
There are definitely some girls that want these sororities, but a couple of my pnms were disappointed to get them back for pref
SDT, DPhiE (SDT, isn't bad, just very niche for obvious reasons. DPhiE got 27 new members, which I feel speaks for itself. The girl in my group who had DPhiE for pref dropped from recruitment

Lol I was also a gamma chi and think what you said was accurate for my group as well with just a couple exceptions:
1) the sororities in the top 2 tiers you listed were basically interchangeable for my group. Some PNMs were drawn to ADPi/KD/ZTA more while others preferred Kappa/Theta/Phi Mu/AOPi. It seemed like Kappa and AOPi were the least popular among the top tier, but excluding a couple of legacies who really wanted a specific house, my PNMs would have generally been really excited to end up at any of them.
2) totally agree that Chi O is a niche house - they generally get the girls they want but there were also a decent number of PNMs who really didn’t like them. I’d also consider AXO to be a niche house to a lesser extent. They’re popular with religious girls but some of my PNMs didn’t think AXO seemed as “fun” as the other sororities. They’re basically the polar opposite of APhi in terms of what type of girls they can recruit.
3) no one from my group seemed disappointed with Pi Phi or DG.
I had PNMs end up at both those sororities, and they seemed really happy on bid day. I think Pi Phi must have cut too many PNMs before pref, then had a hard time with the matching system since they seemed to cross rush with DZ, and AXO more than the lower tier sororities. And anecdotally, the girl who ended up in DG ranked them first over SK after pref which was shocking to me, so I guess they did something right this year lol
I also had 2 girls who both had Alpha Gam and DPhiE for pref. One of them ended up in Alpha Gam and the other dropped out of recruitment.
4) I feel so bad for DPhiE. None of my PNMs wanted them at all, and I hate that their bid day theme was draft/really big team since they were so far under quota :((( I think they would do a lot better if they can fully embrace the quirky/non-basic image for a few years to get their numbers up instead of trying to recruit based on looks/popularity

You stated that you "...can see Aphi improving in the future...I can't say the same for gphi."
WTF?! GPhi picked up a really good pledge class this year, and the GPhi's I know are pretty chill, nice girls who are friendly to everybody. In my previous two years at UGA I have yet to meet a nice APhi. There were several really awful (i.e., mega-mean) girls in our dorm, and one is now in a leadership position in the sorority. Yikes.
I think the poster is an Aphi or has something out for a particular GPhi. Sad.

I’m a senior and it makes me sad that some of the supposedly “popular” houses are full of bullies, while other houses with sweet girls struggle.
I wasn’t part of a bump group this year but in the past, I’d vote no on girls who were known to be bullies.
I’m in a house that isn’t known for being as fun as others but at least our sisterhood is strong (and yes we do have fun).

I was a UGA DDD in the 90s and can confirm the chill modern vibe. I came from south GA and preffed ADpi and PhiMu but went TriDelt because they didn’t feel as “southern”. I think I was looking for something totally different and it was a blast! My PC girls and I still get together every year.

The fact that someone had the best comment in this thread removed is sad. Too bad our community can't own our weaknesses and work on them to become better. DPhiE, you deserve better than the way we treat you - same for SDT, Pi Phi, DG and AGD.
I truly hope that our Gamma Chi training can be improved to ensure that PNMs can go through the recruitment process and be encouraged to trust that they will end up with a house that is right for them.

DPhiE could totally build a strong reputation as a niche sorority for nerdy gamer girl types who still want the experience of being involved in Greek life.
Lots of PNMs have interests (gaming, anime, science/tech, maybe they’re in redcoats or want to do local theater etc…) that they’re afraid to talk about during rush because it doesn’t fit they typically sorority stereotype. Since that’s the vibe a lot of the current DPhiEs have, they could probably get a lot of really fun and genuine PNMs by being open about those types of interests instead of pretending to be something they’re not.
