Biggest (positive) surprise during recruitment?
by: 2022People keep posting their overall rankings, but for any other PNMs on here, which chapter have you been the most surprised with during recruitment so far? I really like both Pi Beta Phi and Delta Gamma at this point, which I wasn’t expecting since they aren’t generally considered top houses from what I’ve heard.

Hahaha the girl I talked to Alpha Phi talked about frats for like half of our conversation. She kept name dropping mid tier frats that they apparently hang out with a lot. Thought that was against the rules so I felt super awkward tbh

Alpha Phi did the same thing to me too!!! The girl who rushed me didn’t mention any frats by name but heavily implied that they have a bunch of “unofficial” socials and get frat pledges to DD for them lol

Trying not to have a favorite house because the cuts will be hard. My surprises were that I had a lot of fun at bottom houses:
DG: Loved their energy, had a lot of fun.
Dphie: No awkward convos and they stand out as very diverse. Not sure why they are talked about so poorly.
Aphi: Another fun house. Not sure if it's for me but the girls were so energetic and put on a great rush.
Old row house: Don't want to call them out but surprised I was invited because I don't fit their stereotype at all.
Top house #2: The girls are trendy and I can tell they def put on a great rush but felt like the girls talking to me were over rush, which surprised me. Bottom houses had more energy.

I’ve been going into every house with an open mind but I was really taken aback by sigma kappa today. All the girls genuinely made me feel like they were so glad I was there. I had some of the best conversations since rush has begun. Three girls I talked to were all glad that I was there and we had very enlightening conversations. I was talking to other pnms and they all felt that sigma kappa had sweet and pretty girls who were actually interested in your convo .
I also really enjoy delta Zeta. The girls were all so pretty and sweet

As someone who probably doesn't look like a “typical” sorority girl, I was kinda nervous about feeling unwanted during recruitment. The cuts today were hard, but I’m really excited about getting invited back to Chi O, DDD, and SK since I expected to mostly have lower ranked houses for house tours!

Yeah the top houses tend to be less diverse since most girls who sign up for recruitment are white, especially PNMs from prestigious high schools with lots of sorority connections. As a result, the top, most competitive, houses are starting to get pressure from nationals about increasing diversity to avoid attracting negative attention for being “too white”.
Should be interesting to see how much this affects their pledge classes this year. And hopefully they’ll actually welcome their minority members and not just parade them around for looks smh

I went to chi o for house tours yesterday and noticed a lot of BIPOC girls invited back there compared to what I saw at some other houses. I wonder how many will be invited back to their pref round since chi o is considered “old row”

I was really impressed with basically all of the bottom/lower mid tier chapters! They all seemed way better than I expected based on the rankings. In particular, DZ, DG, and Pi Phi really stood out as being really fun and genuine - I listed them in my top 10 yesterday over several top tier/more popular chapters and am really excited about going back for house tours!

DZ has definitely impressed me too! I also like AXO and Gamma Phi a lot.
Pi Phi seemed really nice but I think they matched me with people randomly on Sunday, so it didn’t feel like I had as much in common with the girls I talked to there.
DG didn’t really stand out to me initially, but they were my first house tour this morning and seemed a lot more fun and welcoming today.
I’m from out of state and don’t have any connections to UGA, so the first 2 days felt really random with who I talked to at each chapter, but every house tour I’ve been to so far has been really fun! It feels like they’re actually trying to get to know me better now, and I think I’ll really be happy wherever I end up in the end :)

Most surprised about dphie. Thought they’d be super awkward but had good convos.
Surprised I was invited back to SK but they are very sweet and fun.
Also enjoying other houses but those are two biggest surprises for me

They’re mostly just really new and don’t have a strong national presence but dphie is definitely not bad
