Difference between old row vs. new row?
by: Question
I'm an incoming freshman and I plan on rushing. I know not to take this site too seriously, but I am curious about something. I keep seeing on here rankings that separate "Old Row vs. New Row" and I'd like to know what the difference is between the two.
I'm from the north and most of my older friends go to B1G schools where that's not a thing, so I'm flying blind about this and could appreciate an explainer.

Old row is only a thing at Bama. It’s just an agenda that some people (probably alumni) push on this site because they’re afraid of their chapters falling and becoming less “exclusive”
If you’re actually a PNM (which I doubt since you said you “plan” on rushing but your post was after the deadline to sign up for recruitment), then you should be able to tell which houses are actually top based on the real life events you’re attending this week. That’s what you should base your decisions on - not some biased ranks on an online forum that’s probably older than you are.

This really isn’t true anymore. Most of the old row houses are considered top tier because of their reputation, but they really aren’t more competitive than the top “new row” houses like KD, Zeta, AOPi and even DDD to some extent. I know several girls who ended up in Chi O and KKG last year, and I’ve heard Phi Mu is open to OOS PNMs even if they don’t have personal connections to this chapter (in state girls pretty much have to know someone though).
I think the biggest difference at this point is that a lot of the “old row” houses tend to pick PNMs who have money and lots of connections to the chapter over some of the more stereotypical girls (like cheerleaders, pageant/dance girls etc… tend to end up in new row), and old row houses don’t care as much about looks (except for ADPi lol)
