Too Many Houses at UGA
by: Too Many Houses At UGA
In my opinion there are WAY too many houses at UGA.
Even before DPhiE was added, AGD AND DG never got a full pledge class and were always making last minute calls begging people to join.
Why were sororities added when TWO sororities were struggling with membership????????????

Clearly the campus panhellenic felt that chapter sizes were getting too large based on the size of chapter housing to handle more members. That's why you add new chapters. AGD and DG were NEVER that far off of what average chapter size was, and since Alpha Phi joined in 2018, they've always been at or above average chapter size. The two chapters that remain well below are DPhiE and SDT, and clearly their national organizations are ok with them. Any chapter that doesn't get a full pledge class through formal recruitment is welcome to do COB to make up the numbers they didn't get.
No campus is going to wait forever for chapters to "improve" to begin expansion. They will give chapters ample opportunity to get to a desired level, and if they don't, they will move ahead with expansion. Considering average chapter size has not significantly decreased since the addition of DPhiE and Alpha Phi, I'd say there was definitely interest in new chapters joining the community, and as long as there is interest in joining and sororities willing to build houses, expansion is a no brainer.
