Return on pref night by house
by: PNM CounselorWhat’s the likelihood a PNM will bet a bid from a house if she goes there for pref and puts them down as her first choice on her final card? And does a house with a higher return rate get to bring fewer PNMs to pref because Panhellenic knows their return rate on pref night? Would that be by tier (like tier 1 houses bring fewer back for pref because almost all of them will pref that house after pref night)?

PNM Counselor is an awfully pompous title to give yourself, even on here, but I'll play...First of all, the tiers you are talking about are imaginary, made up, not real, and have nothing to do with actual sorority life or recruitment. Truth is that nobody but panhellenic and recruitment chairs knows the actual RFM rates for a particular house, and they aren't telling, so anything you hear is just tent talk, not factual. You'd be surprised on the actual numbers vs the hearsay. Second, yes, stronger recruiting houses must make more releases every single round including for pref. Numbers aside, the main thing that the sororities must consider when making pref invite lists is that every single pnm invited to that round is going to be on their bid list somewhere and therefore could be a sister. That is how they are selecting for pref. Third, the odds favor a pnm getting her first choice through bid matching/quota plus, but there is no guarantee. You could certainly get either one. You have no idea what houses your fellow pnm's are attending nor how they are ranking. That and more figures into bid matching no matter how strong a certain house is in recruiting. There is one certainty though: if you suicide you are not guaranteed a bid to that house. If you don't match with them before they reach quota you're done and out and cannot be a quota addition. Rank that second house if you have it and give it a shot.

Very helpful. I really appreciate it. Completely agree/understand re the tiers - just was easier to reference on here I suppose. Those I’ve counseled this year have cut “top tier” houses round 1 and continue to list “tier 4 and 5” houses near the top of their lists. What is best to one PNM is different from what’s best to another.
I’ll ask another question if you’re still playing … if a PNM loves her top house and is mediocre about her second … with the risk of suicide you mention, the PNM may think it better to still do that, and if she does not land in her top house then she’s still able to accept a snap bids or be open to COBs. So my question - how likely is it for snap bids? I have to think given the process it’s common for most houses to have 1 or 2 snap bids they have to offer to fill quota. Any idea? Or too big of a risk?
