Reminder to the girls going through rush

by:

You want to run home to the house that wants you! If you get dropped by a house you love, it’s okay! That doesn’t mean you didn’t have a good conversation, and it doesn’t mean the girls you talked to didn't like you. It means that while lovely, you may not be the best fit for that chapter, and who you're talking to is going to see that before you do.

Remind yourself that things happen for a reason. The actives know more about the culture of their house and how you’d fit into it than you do. Don’t let the drops keep you from having an awesome experience!!!

Make friends in lines. In later rounds, pay attention to how you get along with the girls in line around you, because some of them will be your sisters soon!

Be intentional about what you talk about with actives! Tell them what you want to say, not what you think they want to hear. And once you make it to pref, the actives should be selling themselves to you, not the other way around. While daunting and emotional if you go through rush with an open mind and good spirit, you’ll be running home to 100 new sisters who chose you every single time!

Also! The worst thing you could do during rush is go into it with a bid promise. This will keep you from seeing great things other houses have to offer you (which can be more new and exciting than what/who you know from the sorority that bid promised you)!

PNM's don't understand what a bid promise is. Having a sorority or member say that they can't wait to see you and that everyone is so excited about you and that they love you etc is NOT a promised bid. It is the sororities' job to make you think you are special to them and there are plenty of stunned and tearful PNM's every year when they get dropped because they didn't understand what's going on. Even something like a member saying "we hope you run home to us" is iffy and not exactly a bid promise. PNM's like to brag when they think they have been bid promised, but it just makes them look stupid. The sororities know how dangerous an actual bid promise is, and they won't risk the consequences of the infraction.

There have been beauty queens and cheerleaders in DG, and there have been losers in ADPi.

You will end up with the people who love and want you, please don’t think less of yourself because of the place you end up.

If you end up in a lower tier sorority, that’s your cross to carry.

You obviously weren’t rich enough to get in a decent sorority.

Smile and be happy anyway even when boys are barking at you on mill edge while they whistle at the other sororities
